B was wearing that powder blue pea coat that made her look oh so prim and proper. At least, Faith thought, she had worn boots and blue jeans tonight. Last time they had gone slaying, and B wore that coat, she wore the whole Betty Crooker outfit, heels and all. Someone should really get the stones to tell B, that even though she was the Slayer, heels in the dirt, in the cemetery, so not the way to go.
She should be more like Faith, Buffy thought. Dressed like that she could go anywhere, okay. Maybe that wasn't true. The fact that the red tank top Faith was wearing looked pretty much painted on would get her excluded from any country club in Sunnydale; if there were country clubs in Sunnydale. Oh, and the leather pants and jacket? Unless she went to the Sunday revival that was held in the one and only biker bar in town, she would not be getting into church looking like that. But for slaying and bronzing after, hmmm, Faith looked just fine.
The boots were actually kind of cute on her, which was just weird and so beside the point. Come one Faith! Why would boots be cute on B? Well, okay, she would allow for the fact that Buffy's feet were so small. That could be why. God. Only Faith, the leather-loving Slayer would think a pair of raised steal toed boots were cute.
Buffy really liked Faith's boots. In fact she had gone out looking for a pair. Buffy wondered, and not for the first time, how tall Faith really was, because she had never see her not in those boots - wait, no she did see her that once, during training…. but Faith had been in jean cut offs and another one of those, hi look at it all, tank tops, so Buffy hadn't really been paying all that much attention to their height difference.
She was all sorts of tiny. Naw, that was just silly. Faith was not a jolly green giant, herself. But there was something about B, that made her seem smaller, made her seem fragile and small, and Faith just wanted to hold her and protect her. Whoa, that was a scary tender moment. That was it! No way she was going to be watching any more fricken Judge Hatchet during the day. That television show made her way too mushy!
It was bad enough that B had seen her cry the other day. It wasn't her fault, she was just weepy, and B showed up, with her smile, and her eyes, and Faith crumbled, going totally soft.
This was still so new; it was only the other day that Faith had finally confessed to what Buffy had known all along, that Faith was in love with her. But knowing it inside and hearing it actually spoken, well those were two entirely different things. Did it scare her? It had scared her to death.
She took it pretty well, Faith thought, for being told that another girl was in love with her, and not only that but a girl with a whole mess of baggage trailing behind her. Yet, if B's reaction was any indication, things weren't going to be so bad. Now if only Faith could get her mouth to start working, and her brain to stop thinking all these negative thoughts.
Buffy had taken it in stride. She had never planned for the eventuality of the confession, even though she had seen the looks, heard the tone in the words Faith spoke. When Faith told her plainly, that she loved her, Buffy Summers did the appropriate thing. She swayed a bit on her feet, so Faith had to catch her. And then they had kissed. And WOW was it a kiss!
Now if she could just stop thinking, and start talking, or better yet start kissing, this night would be getting all sorts of better.
"You wanna know something funny?" Faith asked as she and Buffy walked side by side through Restfield Cemetery. Faith was spinning her stake on the open palm of her hand. She was wondering how much longer they had to patrol, she was really feeling in the mood to dance, and more specifically dance with Buffy.
Buffy looked over at her, and laughed heartily.
"B, um, I haven't said anything yet." Faith furrowed her brow, wondering what on earth had come over Buffy.
"Oh, well I-" the blonde fumbled, lost as to how she was going to explain that to her taller companion.
"Yeah, so what's with the laughing?" Faith asked losing what little patience she possessed.
"Well, I, that is," how could she tell her this without sounding like a complete fool, Buffy mused. Maybe if she could hurry up and think of something witty, something that would get Faith thinking about something else she would be saved.
"SPIT IT OUT."
Or not. "Well I was talking to Willow, and I asked her how to, you know, be a good girlfriend to my girlfriend?" Buffy babbled quickly, only realizing as she spoke that she was actually telling THE TRUTH!
"And Red would know that how?" Faith quirked her eyebrow and grinned, wondering what in the world made Buffy ask the quiet red head, who's world pretty much revolved around Oz. And the last time she had checked; and no not CHECKED checked; Oz was a guy.
"Just a vibe I get from her - so not the point." A vibe? Well that was interesting, Faith decided to file that away for later teasing.
"Okay then Miss on the Topic, what did Red tell you?" Faith stopped walking, crossed her arms and smirked. This would be interesting.
"Well, one of the most important points was to laugh at your jokes, even if they weren't funny."
"Hey!" No fair no fair no fair, Faith chanted to herself. "I never even got a chance to tell you my joke, how do you know it wouldn't be funny?" She asked, feigning hurt.
"Oh, heh, sorry?" Buffy smiled up at her, gently touching her arm, really hoping that Faith was playing around.
"Whatever B." She shrugged, oh not a good sign. "Why would you need to asked anybody how to be my girl, anyway? I think you are doing fine." Faith said softly.
"Not much experience with, would you believe, the whole, girl on girl thing." Buffy shrugged too. That had been her reasoning. She had no idea what was different having a girlfriend versus a boyfriend, and what was the same, so she went to the one person who she trusted to know about everything- her best friend Willow.
"We haven't even gotten to that part yet B." Faith wiggled her eyes brows, and doing so made Buffy's heart beat just a little bit faster.
"You know what I mean, F." She snapped, but teasing, loving it when Faith talked like that, it made her feel wanted, special.
"Do I?" Asked with her best, 'I am such a girl and I am so confused face'.
"Agh, You like to argue, don't you, there is just something innately in you that enjoys this!" Buffy set her hands on her hips.
"It's the blush you get in your cheeks when you're frustrated, if you want to know the truth." Faith said leaning forward to whisper it in Buffy's ear.
Which caused Buffy to stop talking, and stop breathing. And to start blushing. She could feel it burning up from her neck to the top of her head.
"See? Gotcha!"
Buffy just looked at Faith, completely locked in her own world of blushing, and not breathing, and a handful of naughty come backs, but her tongue refused to work.
"I was being serious. Honestly B, I love you, for you, so just be you, okay?" Faith said gently, taking Buffy's hand in hers.
"Okay." The blonde Slayer managed to squeak out.
"Don't worry about what is right or not. I mean did you wig over Angel?" Faith asked, squeezing her hand.
"Huge difference! Him being of the dead and all. And I don't want the same things to happen with us?" Buffy said, taking Faith's hand as she started to walk again, this time them holding hands through the quiet cemetery.
"You don't wanna screw?" Faith interjected.
"God!" Buffy pushed against Faith's shoulder, sending the Slayer stumbling lightly, "No! Erm, well yes, but NO! I would rather not shove a sword through your heart and send you to hell." Buffy clarified, and swore her hair was about to catch fire due to the level of her blush.
"Ah, no chance of that happening, B." Faith grinned.
"None?" Buffy asked, before she could stop herself, before she realized Faith meant the stabbing part, not the screwing part. To save herself she added, "So what was so funny?"
Faith looked at Buffy for a moment, the smile still firmly on her lips, before answering. "Just that we live so close to LA, where people get in their cars to drive to the neighbor's house, but here, nobody drives. I don't get that." She shrugged.
"Maybe enough death and carnage without the steal and glass?" Buffy offered.
"More like the lighting is better on the street?" Faith threw out.
"Funny." Buffy groaned.
"Didn't you say you were supposed to laugh, anyway, regardless of the amount of true funny?"
"But you told me not to," Buffy pouted as she spoke.
"Grr." Faith said and leaned forward to kiss Buffy softly. Just a peck, but it was enough to leave Buffy a little light headed, and Faith wanting to do it again, and soon.
Both girls were quiet, with their eyes closed, just thinking, lost in their own minds. If they could exchange thoughts, for just a moment they would be pleasantly surprised that they were exactly the same.
