PART 1

Buffy lay on her back panting. She had just finished dusting off the vamp and had fallen to her back exhausted. The latest dusted vamp was the last of six that had jumped her. She heard a rustle in the bushes to her left and raised her head to see if it was another vamp but there was not a soul in sight. Buffy lay there for a few minutes trying to recuperate her lost breath.

Faith sat in the bushes watching Buffy from her vantage point in the bushes. She had been back in Sunnydale all of two days but it hadn't taken her long to track down Buffy. She was beginning to think she was mad. The blonde was all she could think of. She knew she shouldn't have come back to Sunnydale but she just couldn't stay away from Buffy and just now she had almost got herself caught by Buffy, the one person she didn't want to find out just yet that Faith was back in town. Faith came out of her thoughts and peeked through the bushes to where she had last seen Buffy but the blonde wasn't where she had last seen her. Faith tensed, she knew that was not good.

*****

Buffy was standing on the other side of the bush to where she had heard the noise and her jaw was hanging open. In front of her was the one person she had fallen hard for and never gotten over. The one person for whom she refused to admit her feelings for.

"Just what do you think you are doing back here?" Faith spun around in her crouch and looked at Buffy.

"Well... umm... I came back for...." 'ShitShitShit...' Faith was thinking.

"Are you going to answer me or not?"

Faith looked down at the ground. "B, look I know you're probably gonna kick my ass for coming back here but I felt I had to at least come back and say I'm sorry for all the shit I put you through. You may never believe me but now I've said my piece I'm gonna go..... You've got better things to do than hang around psychos." Faith went to turn away from Buffy but Buffy grabbed her hand and spun her back.

"No, please don't go. Faith, if you can say sorry I'll forgive you and you are not a psycho. Where are you staying at?"

"I'm not staying anywhere, I came back to say I was sorry and then I was leaving so...." Faith trailed off.

"Well, I think you can come visit with Dawn and I." Buffy grabbed her hand and began to lead the way out of the cemetery. Faith just followed where Buffy was leading, perfectly content with her view.

"Dawnie, I'm home." Buffy yelled through the house as she and Faith came through the front door.

"B, uh one other thing..."

"What?" asked Buffy wandering through the house looking for Dawn, not finding her but finding a scribbled note instead saying that Dawn had gone to Mel's for the night and would be home tomorrow.

"What's your mom gonna say if she comes home and finds me here?"

Buffy turned to look at Faith and her eyes clouded over with a buried pain.

"Mom's not here anymore."

"Where'd she move t..." Faith began and then trailed off as she realised what Buffy meant. "Oh... man... How?"

"Tumor, just three months ago." Buffy's shoulders heaved as she struggled to control unshed tears.

"Oh B, I'm so sorry..." and she trailed off unsure of what else to say. The silence went on for what felt like ages.

"So..." Buffy started "What do you wanna do? Hungry? Watch a vid? Your choice."

"Can we just sit and talk for a while?" Faith asked

"Sure.." Buffy replied. "Do you want a drink or something first?"

"Love one."

Five minutes later they were settled on the couch telling each other what they had been up to over the last year or so.

"So, who's this Glory chick that you keep mentioning and then dodging right around?" Faith asked sometime into the conversation.

"Just this year's bitch that I have to fight. Don't worry about it for now. Plenty of time for work after tonight and now I've got you here she doesn't feel like such a threat."

"K, subject dropped if you say so B."

All of a sudden Faith realised that Buffy had slid across the couch closer to her as they had been talking and was now right next to her. Buffy reached over and took hold of Faith's chin and turned her head towards her. And then kissed her. And kissed her. She felt Buffy's tongue demanding entry to her mouth and opened to allow her in. Buffy's tongue was dueling with hers and Faith moaned internally. She was losing herself and knew that if she didn't stop soon she wouldn't be able to.

Buffy was incredulous at how warm the inside of Faith's mouth was and knew she felt better than she had in a long time. Faith broke the kiss and both girls were panting loudly.

"What did you stop for? Isn’t this what you have always wanted?” A hurt expression surfaced in the blonde’s eyes.

"Oh B, more than anything in this world, " Faith was horrified that Buffy would think otherwise at this point in the proceedings. "I just wanted to make sure it was what you wanted. I've spent so long wanting you that you wanting me as well was not something I thought would ever happen, mainly because you seem so straight."

"Well good. No more talking then." Buffy's final words before her mouth descended to wreak havoc on Faith once more. Faith didn’t know how much longer she could stand this sweet torture when all of a sudden the phone rang. Buffy broke the kiss groaning. “What the? Who the hell could that be?”

“Well, how ‘bout you don’t answer and they ring back tomorrow?”

Buffy shot her a look and reached for the receiver.

“Hello?”

-Buffy, we have problems.- It was Giles.

“What? What could possibly have gone wrong in the three and half hours since I left?” Her tone was a little snappy cause she was disappointed about the interruption.

-Are you okay? Buffy you know I’m here for you right?-

“Ah... yeah. ...Fine. What’s the what?” She was having trouble concentrating cause Faith had taken it upon herself to start kissing and nipping at Buffy’s neck.

-Willow, Tara and Xander had a little run in with Glory’s henchmen.-

“What? When? Are they okay?”

Faith stopped at this and looked at Buffy with a concerned look on her face.

-Yes. They’re here. A bit shook up but nothing major. She’s still looking for her key Buffy. They seem to think that you or someone you know has it. We need to find some way of dealing with this abomination before she hurts one of us.-

“I know, but I’ve got this feeling things are gonna work out now. Are you at the Magic Box or at home?”

-Magic Box. Are you coming down or do you want us to hold off til tomorrow?-

“We’ll head down. Dawn’s at Mel’s so I’m sister free tonight.”

-Who’s the we?-

“Umm... maybe on the phone is not the best idea. Look when I get there we’ll talk. Willow is gonna go nuts and probably Xander too, but I think we have the help we need.”

-It can’t be that bad, Buffy. Just as long as we can stop Glory before she opens the doors between worlds.-

“We might have a chance now. We’ll be there as soon as possible.”

-Bye- and then the dial tone in her ear.

“We gotta go.”

“What’s up?”

“Willow, Tara and Xander got attacked tonight.”

“Are they okay? And who’s Tara?”

“Yeah, they’re fine but we gotta have a pow-wow. WE need to stop this thing. Oh, and Tara... um... she’s Willow’s girlfriend.”

“Girlfriend? As in...?”

“Ah ha.”

Faith burst into laughter.

“What is so funny about Willow having a girlfriend?”

“Oh, nothing just I didn’t think Tara would convert her. I met her um... you know... as you.”

“Oh, she needed something after what Oz... well anyway we gotta go.”

“Right behind ya, B.”

Faith felt herself shaking with trepidation as they approached the Magic Box. She had a feeling this probably wasn't going to go well. Suddenly Buffy stopped and turned to her.

"What's up, Faith? You seem a little nervous."

Faith wondered when the blonde had become so attuned to her.

"Uh... I was just uh... wondering if it's such a good idea you taking me in there without breaking the news to the Scoobies first?" She layed it straight on the line. She figured if she wanted her... well, whatever it was with Buffy now... to work she was gonna have to be straight with the blonde. Buffy stood looking at her for a moment.

"You're probably right but you know what? They'll deal. Whatever happens Faith, I'm right by your side. You've done your time and they'll get used to having you around again. So let's do this, huh?" The brunette nodded. If Buffy said it was gonna be fine it would be. She was still a bit nervous though. The blonde took her hand and led the way into the Magic Box.

*****

The Scoobies all looked up as the bell rang that heralded Buffy's arrival. And their eyes almost bugged out of their heads. Faith was with her. Buffy held up her hand before any of them could say anything.

"It's a surprise, I know but... Faith's back. She's changed."

Xander looked like he was going to interrupt but Buffy just looked at him.

"Xander, please let me finish. She's done her time. I don't expect you to forgive her. All I'm asking is that you give her a chance to prove herself and honestly with Glory on the loose, we could probably use the help, 'specially seeing that it's a god we're dealing with." She felt more than heard Faith's intake of breath as she finally let her fellow Slayer know exactly what it was they were dealing with.
