Faith sat nervously in the chair. This was always the worse part. The waiting. Why did they always do this to her? She looked at the office door and the man get up from behind his desk. Faith straightened out her blouse and tried not to look bored.

The door opened and the man stepped out. “Ms. Spencer?”

Faith smiled. “That’s me.”

The man outstretched his hand as he walked up. “Hi, I’m Mr. Williams. I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”

*What were you doing, jacking off?* Faith thought to herself as she shook her head no.

“Good, then come on in.”

Buffy watched as Faith came stomping out of the department store. Apparently, Faith’s job interview didn’t go that well. The slayer smiled as she looked at Faith. The raven-haired slayer was wearing a black skirt and black heels. Her white blouse was buttoned just above her cleavage.

“Hi, Baby.” Buffy said as Faith pulled off her heels and opened the car door.

Faith got inside and slumped down in the seat.

Buffy got in the car and looked at her girlfriend. “How did it go?”

“I fucked it up again.” Faith said as she looked down at her resume.

“I am sure something will turn up.” Buffy gently held Faith’s hand. It had been a tough few weeks for the younger slayer. After Faith had gotten better, things quieted down once again on hellmouth. Which was perfect timing for the real world to start kicking their ass.

Once Buffy had found out that the money from her mom’s insurance had been used up, the slayers knew that getting real jobs was the only way for them to stay afloat. Buffy had no problem finding work as secretary for some office in downtown Sunnydale. The pay was good and the hours made easy for her to keep up with Dawn and her duties as the slayer.

Faith, however, was having a tougher time. She had been on dozens of interviews but nothing panned out for her.

Buffy looked at her watch. “Shit.”

“What is it?” Faith asked.

“I have to get back to work.”

Faith folded her arms and pouted. “Okay.”

“Don’t act that way. I’m sorry that things didn’t work out.”

“I know. I just feel like...like I’m disappointing you.” Faith turned and looked out the window.

“You’re not. Ok? You are out there trying everyday and I couldn’t ask you for anything more.”

Faith smiled weakly. Buffy didn’t get it. She didn’t want to not have a job. Everyday she watched as everybody went all along with their daily routines. It made her feel useless. When Buffy and Dawn would come home, they would both have stories about what they did all day long.

All Faith could add was she went out looking for a job and nothing turned up. So, she came back home cleaned up and then sat in front of the TV silently wishing that someone would call and say that they needed her.

She felt lost. Directionless. Like all this time, she had been just drifting all along and now when it was time for her to find direction, she had no idea where to start.

Buffy was supportive of her the whole time though. Giving her the love and support she needed to get through this. But somehow that made Faith feel worse. Buffy was giving and giving and all Faith couldn’t give her anything back. She loved Buffy more than life itself but there were times when she wished that she could give her more.

Faith looked at herself in the mirror. This being an adult thing was harder than anything she had ever faced as a slayer.

The car pulled into the parking lot of the office building. Buffy saw Faith staring into the mirror. It killed her to see Faith in any kind of pain. And it was the dark slayer’s nature to bottle things up and keep them to herself. Buffy got of the car and walked around to Faith’s side.

She opened the door and Faith got out. The smaller girl pulled Faith into an embrace. <Dawn’s going to Willow and Tara’s tonight..>

Faith nodded. <Does this mean we get to spend sometime together?>

<Exactly. I’m going to pull you out of this funk. I don’t want my baby to be depressed.> Buffy gently squeezed Faith.

<I know. When will you be home?> Faith asked. Even when she was feeling like shit, one hug from Buffy and whatever was bothering her was put on the back burner.

<6 or 7.> Buffy kissed Faith and began walking towards the entrance. <Drive safely. I love you.>

Faith smiled and waved. <Love you, too.>

Faith stood there and watched Buffy go into the building. This had to change. She would have to find something to do. She closed the car door and drove it out of the lot.
