Disclaimer: Joss owns the characters. I am merely taking them for a spin.
Spoilers: End of season 5 and wild speculation.
Author's Notes: This is the sequel to my first story 'Pictures'. You should really read that first because this will make no sense. The song is ‘Angel’ by Sarah Mclachlan. < > = means that Buffy and Faith are using their connection. ** = means regular thoughts.
Thanks: Once again to Sasha for making Slayer Pride and writing 'A whole new Scene'. Without that story I never would have wrote this. Thanks to Sway for giving crazy support and being my biggest cheerleader. Thanks to Nikita for the detailed feedback and the support.

She ran. She pushed herself as hard as she could. Trying to force her body to move as fast her heart was going. The cars and people she past started to blur as she flew past them and towards the park. There wasn't that much time left. She raced into the park and the path toward the sound of a large engine starting. She finally got there only to see the helicopter slowly rising to the sky. She screamed as loud as she could for it to stop. She screamed again. Suddenly all the noise stopped. She looked up at the helicopter and saw a figure leaning out of it. It was Faith. She yelled for the dark slayer to come back to her. She yelled at the top of her lungs but nothing came out.

Faith smiled down at her. And then she spoke.

"Did you honestly think I was going to stay with you forever?"

She fell to her knees sobbing violently and watched as the helicopter flew away.

Buffy shot up from her pillow. The tears from the dream were rolling down her face. She wiped her eyes and looked at her clock. 12:36am. She had gone a whole six hours without thinking about or mentioning Faith. Buffy got up and went into her bathroom. She turned on her sink and splashed some water onto her face.

She could do this. She had to be strong. There was no one else that she could depend on.

*Faith doesn't need me.* She thought as she dried her face. The slayer stared at her reflection in the mirror. She had to do this for herself. All she needed to do was make it through the night.

Buffy turned off her light and slid back into her bed.

*She doesn't need me. Why should I need her?*

Faith looked out of the window and stared at lights below. The big city seemed so peaceful from up here. A cup of tea silently hovered next to her.

"Thanks, Dennis." She took the cup from the ghost who shared Cordelia's apartment. That alone summed up how strange of a day she had. Losing her ability to fight was one thing but spending time with Cordelia had to be the weirdest development of the day.

"See living with a ghost has its perks." Cordy said as she sat down on the couch.

"I guess so." Faith walked over to the couch and sat at the end opposite from Cordelia. The slayer sat her tea down and began unlacing her boots.

She turned her head so she could see Cordy's eyes. They reminded her of Buffy's. Not that they were the same color but that they looked at her like a person instead of a killer. And it didn't hurt that she was cute.

Faith quickly looked back at her boots. "So where do we start?"

"Well, there's this nightclub in town where the supernatural types go……" Cordelia started to say but was cut off by Faith who jumped out her seat.

"Is this the same place that Angel sang at?"

Cordelia nodded as Faith grabbed her by the arm. "Come on let's go. I just have to meet the man who got deadboy to sing."

Cordy smiled at Faith. For someone who was supposed to be as tough as nails slayer, she sure did act like a kid.

*And it doesn't hurt that she's kinda cute.* She thought. *Oh my god where did that come from?*

"Ok, we'll go under one condition."

Faith let go of her arm. "What is it?"

"No Barry Manilow songs." Cordy said as she almost started laughing again. It was fun just being around Faith. Things were just so relaxed and easy. There was no angst or deep seeded hatred between them. They were just two friends who getting along better than either expected.

Faith started laughing when she saw Cordy's expression. "Deal."

It had worked. Things were back to normal. She could just feel it. She slowly watched her lover stand up. The demon's mouth closed and the portal slowly vanished. Something about this was different. It didn't matter though. The demon had been stopped. Giles and the rest of her friends were safe.

She embraced her lover tightly. "I love you." She whispered.

Her lover smiled at her. "Close your eyes."

She closed her eyes and then felt a sharp pain in her side. Her eyes shot open. She looked at her stomach to see the knife she stabbed Faith with was now in her.

Her lover was standing in front of her. Her raven colored hair blowing in the wind. Faith smiled as she gripped the knife and turned it. "How else did you think this was going to end?"

Buffy screamed and sat up. She quickly grabbed her side and found that there was no knife in it. It had been a dream. Just like before. Why was this bothering her so?

Her door flew open and Dawn came rushing to her sister side. The girl was visibly shaken. "Buffy? Are you ok?"

The slayer motioned for her sister to sit on the bed. "I'm fine. Just had a bad dream."

"Was it about Faith?" she asked.

"Dawn. I fight demons and vampires. All the time. Maybe my dream was about them."

"Yeah but, I didn't know you knew any demons named Faith." Dawn bounced off the bed and walked towards the door. "She said she'd be back. Why can't you believe her?"

Her sister closed the door and left Buffy sitting on the bed in the dark.

*No.* She thought. *Faith left because she didn't need you. Hell she didn't even say goodbye. Besides what Dawn know anyway. She's just a kid.*

Buffy leaned back on her pillow and looked at her clock. 1:35am. She closed her eyes and went back to sleep.

"So, which one of you beautiful ladies is going to be singing for me tonight?" The Host asked as he sat down at the table.

Faith raised her hand. The Host smiled and motioned for the slayer to get upon the stage.

"Don't let the yellow suit, the green face, and red horns throw you off. He's your best shot." Cordy whispered into Faith's ear. The slayer smiled and got up from her seat and walked over to the stage.

"There's something off about her isn't it." The Host asked as he watched Faith walk onto the stage.

Cordelia shook her head. "Yeah." She locked her eyes onto her friend. The slayer was staring back at her.

"Is she seeing anybody? Cause she giving off this weird vibe." The Host asked. Cordy nodded but didn't reply.

Faith cleared her throat. This was going to be hard. She left as if she had lost a piece of herself. She didn't even know if she could sing anymore. Her eyes locked onto Cordelia's. They were saying that she could do this. And no matter how bad things got that she would be there to catch her.

She knew what song she should sing. She just hoped it sounded okay.

	//Spend all your time waiting
	for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
	there's always one reason
	to feel not good enough//

Faith opened her eyes. She saw that everyone in the bar had stopped what they were doing and were listening to her. Cordelia gave thumbs up from where she was sitting. The slayer smiled and continued.

//and it's hard at the end of the day
	I need some distraction
	oh beautiful release
	memory seeps from my veins
	let me be empty
	and weightless and maybe
	I'll find some peace tonight//

The Host got onto his feet and clapped. Soon the whole bar erupted into applause. Faith bowed blushing and smiling from ear to ear. The slayer then silently wished to herself that Buffy was there to hear it.

She stood on a beach just as the morning sun crept above the waves. She closed her eyes and silently wished that she had someone to share it with. Then someone walked up and slid their arms around her. She felt herself relax. She smiled and spoke.

“I’m so glad you are here.”

“Where else would I go?” the voice answered.

“You might leave me again.” Her voice sounded so sad and alone. As much as she tried to hide it, she had no reason to lie while she was here.

“I would never leave you. If it wasn’t for you, I would be lost. Never let go of my love. Never let go of my heart. No matter where I go, it’ll always be with you.”

She turned around and looked into her partner’s eyes. “Is this the part where you kiss me?”

“No. This is when you wake up.”

For the third time that night, Buffy sat up from her bed. “At least there’s no flop sweat this time.”

The slayer sat in her bed. The words from her dream echoing in her mind.

‘I would never leave you. If it wasn’t for you, I’d be lost.’

That was it. If Faith needed her so much then why the fuck did she run away at her earliest convenience? She should have known better. Dream or not, when she got up, Faith would still be gone. And even if she did come back, Buffy would spend every night wondering if Faith would be there when she woke up.

Her trust, her faith had been broken. Buffy lied back down. Why was she the only one who ever got hurt? How come it was so easy for everyone else to cut off their feelings? Just then the words of the first slayer drifted in her head.

‘We are alone...’

Buffy sadly laughed to herself. No matter how long she had denied it in the end she was alone. Again.

*So what else is new?* The slayer closed her eyes and went to sleep.

Faith sat back down at the table. Cordelia couldn’t take her eyes off the slayer. Under the table, she gently slid her hand into Faith’s. The slayer looked at Cordelia and smiled. The two changed their grip so that their fingers interlocked.

“I am so proud of you. You were so brave.” Cordy whispered into Faith’s ear. She squeezed her hand a bit tighter.

“I must say, that was amazing.” The Host said.

“Thanks. So what did you see?”

“Well, I know you have been feeling as if there is something missing from you. Like a piece of you is gone.”

Faith nodded. “So how do I get it back?”

“All I can say is that someone named Lucy will have an answer for you. But be careful. You might not like what she has to say.”

“I never like what she has to say. Thank you. Come on Cordy. Let’s get out of here.”

Cordelia smiled at him. “Thanks again.”

The Host smiled as the two girls walked towards the exit hand in hand. He took another swallow of his drink. He walked into his office and shut the door.

He had told Faith what she wanted to hear but not what she needed to hear. He shook his head and whispered. “Your powers are the only thing you’re going to lose. I just hope you can make it through what you are about to go through.” The Host then fixed his tie and went back out into the bar.

Faith and Cordelia walked down the street towards the hotel.

“Are you sure you want to stay at hotel? You could always stay with me.” Cordy said as the two stopped in front of the Hyperion hotel.

“Naah. I’ll be cool. Besides Dennis sort of weirds me out.” Faith started walking towards the door.

“I really had a good time tonight.” Faith turned around and looked at the former cheerleader. “Me too, Cordy.”

The two walked closer. Cordelia smiled. “Well, good then. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” She gave the slayer a friendly hug. Cordelia couldn’t explain it. Faith felt so right in her arms. It just felt so right. She leaned in close to Faith. “I had a really good time.”

Faith tried to focus on Buffy. She tried not to think about having Cordelia’s body pressed against hers. How her body curved and how beautiful she was. She couldn’t do it anymore. This was crazy. But every inch of her screamed for her to touch Cordelia.

“Me too. I want to kiss you Cordelia.”

“What’s stopping you?”

They leaned in and kissed.
