Caught in the Rain

Author's Notes: Faith and Buffy have recently corresponding through
letters while Faith has been in jail. Their anger toward one another
has simmered down.

The first place Faith went after her liberation from Jail was a familiar house on Revello Drive. There she stood in front of the Summers' house, hesitating to knock, but finally doing so. Buffy came to the door, looking more beautiful than Faith had remembered.
"Faith. What are you doing here?"
"I just wanted to talk to you. Even if you don't want to talk to me, I figured that at least I'd get to see you one more time."
This comment really pulled at Buffy's heart strings. She stepped aside to let the brunette in.
"Come on, we can talk inside."
They sat on the sofa in the den.
"Not to sound resentful, but why are you out so soon?"
"My lawyer said they didn't have enough to hold me, even with a confession. I would have stayed to make you happy, but..." The dark slayer trailed off.
"I'm so sorry I put you through that. You never deserved to go to jail. It was just as much my fault as it was yours."
Faith's face shot up. "God no B, please don't apologize, I will. I'm sorry. For putting you and everybody else through that. If I could, I would do anything to take it back, but I can't and it hurts. It hurts so bad to know that I hurt you the way I did; I never wanted to." A single tear fell from Faith's eye and onto her cheek. Buffy herself was getting teary eyed as she leaned over to catch Faith's stray tear with her hand.
"Why did you do it...Go to him instead of me?"
Faith looked at her feet ashamed. "Complicated really."
"I'm listening Faith."
She hesitated. "He didn't make me feel like second best, or an obligation. He made me feel special and wanted."
Buffy started shaking lightly. "Oh my God, I made you feel those things?" It was more of a statement than a question. Tears whelled up in Buffy's eyes. "I'm so sorry."
"It's ok B, really. Let's just start over...if you want." Faith was nervous of Buffy reaction to her perposal.
"I'd like that alot." Throughout their conversation, the two slayers hadn't known that it had started raining.
Faith started to get up. "Well, I guess I better go."
Buffy stood up as well. "You don't have to, you can stay if you want."
"Thanks, but I gotta go clear my head a bit." They walked towards the door together.
"Just don't clear me out, ok?" They smiled at each other for the first time in a long time.
"Never dream of it. I've missed you B."
"I've missed you too Faith." Buffy leaned up to give Faith a quick kiss on the cheek, just beside her lips on the dimple. Buffy lingered there and was immediatly drawn to the brunette's lips.
Before she knew it, Faith had Buffy's lips on her own. She responded by kissing Buffy back softly. They broke apart in amasement.
"Faith, I have to tell you something. I Lo..." Buffy was cut off by her.
"No, B, please don't. You can't!" Faith ran out the door and into the night and now rain. Buffy pursued right away. She wasn't letting Faith slip away this time. She gave chase to Faith and caught her on the road just outside of her house. The two slayers were already soaked.
"Faith, I'm in love with you." Buffy grasped Faith's hands at her sides.
"What do you want from me Buffy?" She then moved her hand to Faith's cheek.
"Let me love you. Let yourself love me. I need you Faith. Please!" She kissed Faith passionately, trying to put every emotion into that one kiss.
"I love you too B, and I can't live without you." Faith said with her forehead resting against her fellow slayer's.
"Then don't. You can stay with me. Now come on, let's get dried off. Wet is not my best look."
"Anything is your best look B." Faith's heart had suddenly lightned.
"I love you Faith."
"I love you too girlfriend."
"Oh, so we're girlfriends now." Buffy loved the banter between them that she had missed so much.
"Hell yeah. (She went shy) I mean...if you want."
"You know what I want." Buffy wrapped her arms around Faith's neck. They sparred just like old times.
