Author's Notes: This is a birthday present fic to my friend… all I know her as

your present, from me to you. By the way, the title is from a word one of my firefighter

The Scooby Gang was at the Bronze, relaxing after a harrowing day of researching and expelling demons from Sunnydale. Xander and Anya were chattering away with Willow and Tara, while Dawn was talking to some guy from her school. Buffy and Faith were running late, as usual.
"Damn it, B, we were supposed to be there 15 minutes ago! This is pushing 'fashionably late!'" yelled Faith into the bathroom. Buffy was still applying her makeup, wanting to make this a special night. She was planning on telling Faith how she felt about her.
"Okay, okay, I'm almost done, Faith," came the reply.
"Well, hurry it up! We gotta shake some tailfeathers!"
"Fine, I'm finished," said Buffy as she walked out of the bathroom. The brunette did a double take, as the person who walked out of her bathroom was the most radiant and beautiful woman she'd ever seen.
"What's wrong? I don't look bad, do I?" asked Buffy.
"N-no… you look… wow."
"Is that so? I guess we'd better go, then."
"Y-yeah… go. Going would be good."
Good God, she looks so fuckin hot! thought Faith. I think I'd better tell her how I feel tonight, before she gets all the guys on the West Coast.
The two walked out the door, oblivious to each other's inner turmoil.
"Hey guys!" exclaimed the blonde as the slayers found their friends.
"Buffy!" yelled Willow. "You look… wow."
"I think she means you look extremely desirable in a sexual manner," said Anya. Everyone at the table, Buffy included, started snickering. Xander turned beet-red.
"Now honey, remember that talk we had about tact?"
"Yes, I just thought it was boring and therefore unnecessary."
Xander gave a deep sigh before turning his attention to Buffy. "Although I must admit, you do look good tonight, Buff. What's the occasion? Meeting someone?"
"As a matter of fact…"
"Oh? Who is it, B?" a tone of bitter jealousy was in Faith's voice, but to the untrained ear, it just sounded like she had something in her throat.
"You know who it is. I don't think you much like them, though."
"There's a big surprise," muttered Xander just under his breath.
"So what say we hit the dance floor?" asked Buffy.
Thirty minutes later, all the Scoobies needed a break, with the exception of the two slayers. Slayer strength has its perks, including abnormal stamina.
"So who ya meetin here, B?" asked Faith with obvious acidity in her voice.
"Someone very special to me. Someone I've loved for a long time, and I just barely got the nerve to reveal my feelings."
"Oh?" Inwardly, Faith was crushed. There went my chance. "Do I know him?"
"You know this person very well, actually. But not as well as you think."
"Okay, enough with the crypto shit. You gonna tell me or not?"
"Yes. But only after we stake those 2 vamps that just came in."
"Fine," Faith sighed, apprehensive. She wasn't scared of the vamps. Hell no. But she didn't know how to deal with this new heaviness on her heart.
The pair sauntered up behind the oblivious members of the undead, readying their stakes. The vamps were dusted without ever knowing what staked them.
"So you gonna tell me now, B?"
"Let's go outside. Alone." Buffy was gonna do this one right, so Faith wouldn't be tempted to run away.
"Anyone seen Buff or Faith?" asked Xander.
"They just went outside. I think they need some time," replied Willow, sharing a look with her girlfriend. She was dead sure that Tara's gaydar was on the fritz. No way in hell Buffy could be a lesbian. But as the night went on, she caught the glances the blonde was stealing at the brunette. Now there could be no other explanation. Not that Willow had a problem with it or anything, she reflected.
"So we're outside. You plannin on tellin me sometime soon? The suspense is killin me here."
"Well, this person and I have been through a lot together. Matter of fact, this person has been there for me whenever I needed it… whether I liked it or not. Now I realise I do like it."
"Okay, is this supposed to make any sense at all? I don't geddit."
"It's you, Faith. I love you."
Faith's senses went into a complete shutdown. Her knees started to wobble, and she nearly passed out.
"You… you… did you just… love… are you for real?"
"Yes, Faith. Read my lips. I. Love. You."
"You don't want me. You're too good for me."
"No, Faith, don't say that."
"Why not? I've fantasized about this day for years, since I first met you. Now that it's come, I realise that I'm not good enough. I-I… I'm gonna go." Faith started to run, until she felt a strong hand clamp on her arm.
"Let me go, B," she said, without turning around.
"No. Turn around, Fai." Faith turned around to meet the beautiful, familiar green eyes she'd fell for in the first place. "No matter what you think, I'll always love you. You're not below me. I'm not too good for you."
"B-" Faith started. She was cut off by Buffy's lips pressing against her own, melting her. There was no way the brunette could fight this. "I love you, too, Buffy," she whispered as their lips separated.
"Good. Now that that's settled, what do you wanna do?"
"I think what we were doing earlier would suit me fine," grinned Faith.
"What, danc-" She was cut off by Faith kissing her again, more passionately this time. Her tongue slowly slid into the blonde's mouth, exploring unconquered territory. Buffy eagerly returned the gesture, so happy she was nearly crying.
The Scooby Gang stood at the doorway of the club, watching the two girls share their moment together.
"Well? Did they call it or did they call it?" asked Xander rhetorically.
"Yes. Can we go home and have sex now?" asked Anya.
"Actually… I think that would be a good idea," replied Xander vacantly. Anya smacked him on the arm. "Ow! What was that for?"
"Dirty thoughts that did not include me," replied Anya.
"Wha… how did you… never mind. Let's go, An."
The two strode off purposefully, in the opposite direction of the two slayers. Dawn came outside, and joined Willow and Tara.
"Is that Buffy and… Faith?" she asked.
"Yup," answered Willow.
"Ewww, gross." Dawn ran back inside the Bronze.
Willow and Tara shared a look and a smile, before going back inside. Everything was gonna be all right after all.
