Faith woke up to see Buffy's face hovering above her own. She smiled, then she remembered. And her smile disappeared. Buffy had made her let her guard down. And it had resulted in her being hurt.
"What happened?" Faith asked.
"Riley shot you" Buffy smiled, because the brunette was awake. But Faith misread it. The brunette blinked a few times, thinking she was dreaming some nightmare. Buffy wouldn't.... Would she? She thought.
"G... Get away from me" Faith pushed Buffy away and stood up.
"Faith... what's wrong?" Buffy tried to touch Faith but earned herself a punch in the face instead.
"I... I.... You played me!" Faith shouted at her, as Buffy brought her hand up to where Faith hit her. Both of them were struck with a quick flash back of the last time Faith said those words, and how it ended.
Quickly say something, Buffy thought. But confusion was eating away at her as she tried to figure out what was up with Faith.
"F... Faith.... Please... What is it... What's wrong?" Buffy felt tears about to fall from her eyes as she saw the brunette about to turn her back.
"Figure it out" Faith said coldly, before disappearing behind a crypt.
Buffy felt herself sinking to the floor, her tears falling freely down her face. She could taste the salt on her lips with a hint of Faith still lingering, but that was all, she couldn't feel anything else. There was nothing. Just the taste of tears and Faith.
Faith flung herself at the bed in her apartment and stretched herself over the sheets. "****! ****! ****! What the **** just happened?" She asked herself outloud. She had had Buffy then she lost her. Ten minutes earlier they were making out in the Graveyard. And now she was alone again. And not to mention cold, without Buffy's warmth. Faith lifted her hand and felt her lips. Cold. Faith brought the covers of the bed around her when she felt herself shiver. Still she was cold. So cold. Were her last thoughts before she fell asleep.
Buffy sat in the mud of the graveyard. She hadn't moved since Faith left, and it had began raining. She was cold and wet. But nothing willed her to get up.
Back at Giles' apartment, Willow was on the phone to Riley. She had a look of confusion and disappointment on her face as she spoke into the receiver. "Thanks Riley... Bye."
"Buffy's at Restfield cemetery" she told the others as she put the phone down. "With Faith."
"Let's go then" Xander started gathering up an assortment of weapons from Giles' weapons chest.
Giles shut the lid of the chest forcefully. "I don't think it wise to just go running in there Xander, we don't know how Faith's physical state is, let alone her mental state," he berated the boy, realising just how much he hated Faith. He turned to Willow, "What else did Riley say?"
Willow took a deep breath before relaying the worst of the information. "They were kissing."
"Who?" Xander looked at the redhead confused.
"Buffy."
"And Faith?" Giles questioned.
Willow nodded. "He said he shot Faith, she was out cold when he left. Buffy was mad at him, but seemed more concerned with caring for Faith. He's decided to cut it off with her... With us."
"Is Buffy mad!!??" Xander shouted. "What does she think she's doing!! I mean this is Faith... Even if Buffy did have feelings for her... She's Miss-Get-Some-Get-Gone right! That's what Buffy told us. And she did it to me. Even if Faith is sane. Which she probably isn't! What gives Buffy the right to put us all in danger by sucking face with an enemy... AGAIN!"
"Xander, calm down will you" Willow shouted at him. Then lowered her voice a few decibels before talking to Giles. "I'm going to see them" Giles was about to suggest otherwise. "Not alone. I'll take Tara."
"Who's Tara?" Xander asked.
"My friend. She's a wicca. Really powerful too." Willow explained to Xander and Giles how she and Tara met, and Giles gave them the go ahead to track Buffy and Faith.
"S..So, I'm finally going to meet the infamous Buffy" Tara said as she walked towards the gates of Restfield Cemetery with Willow. The rain pounding around them, yet they remained dry due to the invisible umbrella Tara had suggested casting.
"Yep, although not quite in the situation I imagined... She might not be... well... Sane" Willow informed the Wicca.
"Oh." Was all Tara replied before Willow was rushing off ahead.
"Buffy!" Willow stopped by a blonde in the distance and Tara rushed to help the redhead.
"Get her under here" Tara said.
When Buffy was under the invisible umbrella, Willow began calling to the oblivious Buffy.
Buffy could see and hear her friend calling her name frantically. But she wasn't going to answer. She wanted Faith. And she wasn't doing anything until she got her back. Call it selfish if you will. But Buffy called it Love.
Xander stood outside Faith's apartment door. Contemplating whether to go in or not. He had hoped that they weren't here. That his intuition was wrong. But the flickering light and faint sounds of television proved otherwise. He decided he wasn't going to back down now, and balled his hand into a fist.
Faith sensed the person outside the door before she heard the pounding. As she tuned in her senses she came to the conclusion that Xander was standing outside. It wasn't a vampire or Buffy, because she would have had the hairs stick up on the back of her neck if it was. The police thought the place was still empty, and the low noise and light levels should convince them this was still the case. Which left the Scooby Gang. Willow and Giles were sensible enough not to come knocking on her door. And Riley had no clue where her apartment was. Which only left Xander.
"Go away Zeppo." She called, her eyes still set on the television, even though she hadn't been watching it for the last half an hour anyway.
"H... How did you know it was me?" He stuttered.
"You're the only Scooby dumb enough to knock on my door." She called. "Actually I should give you credit for that, you got some balls."
"Thanks." He said.
"No Problem. What you want anyway? Come to gloat. Laugh about how Buffy finally screwed Faith over."
"What are you talking about?"
"Riley shooting me in the back, while I was lip locking with your slayer. I should have seen it coming. She could never love me."
"Yes she could" Xander muttered.
"What was that?" Faith strained her hearing.
"Nothing." Xander lied. "She visited you everyday in the summer. And she's been visiting whenever possible now she's in college. Ever since she found your letter."
"She did? You read the letter?"
"Can I come in and answer your bombardment of questions. 'Cause I don't fancy getting a numb ass."
Faith could almost picture his grin as she laughed, "I think I might let you stay out there then."
"Please." He talked through the gap in the door.
As Xander fell through the door to see Faith, who had evidently been crying, he realised this confrontation had gone in the completely opposite direction he expected it to. At least she isn't trying to kill me, he thought before standing up.
