CHAPTER 1: A Night's Tale

I was patrolling down the graveyard the other day, when I saw this weird-looking person. I was far away, but I could definitely tell that it was a woman, she had long hair, and she was all dress in dark colors. She could've been a vampire, but she didn't act like one; in fact, it seemed that she wasn't plannng on getting out of the place. I'm not sure I can say if it was either my slayer instinct or simply my curiosity, but something took me there. She was not very tall, she was about my size, maybe a little taller than I am. I got closer, but not too close so she could see me, because I had the feeling she would run if that happened.

What is she hiding from? What is she looking at? And not even with my slayer sight I could manage to see what she was seeing. She was smoking while she was standing there, as if she was mesmerized between the image and her own thoughts. I knew I wasn't there to spy on this mysterious girl, but to slay vampires; however, I couldn't resist the thought of talking to her, really don't know why. I guess there was something about her that just kept calling me.

She was still lost in thought when I got closer, but I think I stepped on a branch that cracked, because out of the blue she turned around, saw me for less than a second, and started running away. I didn't know if she knew me or what, or for that matter, I didn't know if "I" knew her; the whole thing happened so fast I never got to see her face. Nevertheless, I started runing after her, she ran real fast, but she tripped on something, and that gave me advantage to catch her. I grabbed her from behind, but she kept struggling to set free. She never turned around her face, or could I break the effort to trap her by glancing ahead. I was stronger than she was; however, I made a mistake she took advantage of: I grabbed her from her jacket, so the only thing she had to do was just slide out of it and keep running; and so she did, leaving me only with this piece of cloth in the hands. Then, even worse, I wasted too much time looking at the leather jacket, so by the time I looked up again, she had already disappeared into the night.

I sighed getting conscious of my failure, folded the jacket, and started walking through the same path I had run on before, but there was something utterly weird that caught my attention. The girl had been smoking, and she threw the cigarette on the floor at the instant she started to run; the butt was still there, then I notice where she had been standing, I could see what she had been seeing before; it was the very own grave I crawled out of ten months ago, my very own grave, that was still there, with my name written on it.
