Perfect Moment

Author's Notes: Short, kinda cheesy fic but I had to get it out of my system. Also a pointless note - I do actually have a sliver of belief in Atlantis but 'Bigfoot' sounded too unromantic...
Feedback: Love it.

I stood in the rain. My body was drenched, soaked through to damp bones. The world was stretched before me; lights sprawled in the distance. I stopped for a second, to breathe it all in. Really stopped, y’know? Took some time out. Held my breath. Counted to three. To six. To nine. Looked over at the non-existent horizon, where the town of Sunnydale merged with the sky in a clouded line. All that glitters *was* fucking gold, despite the withered saying.

Buffy, an example in my point. She glittered. She glowed. She was my golden girl.

I shut my eyes.

‘It’s nice being outside with you, B. When it’s not strictly business.’

Her smile was warm, and suddenly next to me.

‘I think we’re a little far from it being business, Faith. Don’t you?’

Sliding my arm around her waist and moving my lips up against her neck. Breathing again. Voice full of gravel.

‘I should hope so.’

God, I’d never felt so fucking pure. So honest. Knives and dark rooftops now belonged with the Loch Ness Monster and Atlantis. They simply didn’t exist.

She turned, facing me. We were at the lookout, Buffy’s car a dark metallic lump in the distance. Before modern-day youth began leaving roach butts and empty spray-cans on the ground, the place had apparently been an old ‘lovers lane’. A steamed-up window area. Tonight we were playing the parts of Peggy-Sue and Shirly-Anne, just a couple of good old-fashioned vampire slayers. On a first date and feeling everything truly, madly, deeply.

‘You ready?’ She asked.

I kissed her in reply. Moved in, swooped in, an eagle for the night. Kissed her with my mouth, with my body, feeling like I was melting into her very fucking soul.

It’s a nice feeling, to melt. I don’t think I’ve ever really felt it before.

‘There’s your answer, B.’

She blushed in the darkness, pulling a strand of wet hair away from her face. I smirked, waiting for the nervous response, the embarrassed fumble. What came out instead was as smooth as premium chrome:

‘Let’s roll, then.’

She paused and thought about it, a moment of Buffy humanity.

‘F.’

I laughed loudly, fighting against the urge to pick her up and swing her around in my arms.

‘Always full of surprises, B.’

She smiled, and gently took my hand in hers, her being filling up that empty space that had always been beside me. As we approached the car the rain subsided, leaving the air clean.

I threw my head up to the sky and soaked my soul for a second, because purely perfect moments - well, they don’t come around very often, do they?

The End
