Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Setting: Sometime after season 3 only Faith never went bad and her
and Buffy really like each other, but not in a kissing way… or do
they??
Author's Notes: Short, completely pointless Fic. I just wanted to write a movie
theatre scene.
Dawn slowly staggered down the staircase while the smell of bacon and eggs cooking in the kitchen filled the air. She made her way to the living room, switched on the TV and settled into the couch. Just as she had gotten herself comfortable, the doorbell rang.
"Buffy it's for you!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. "Buffy!" Dawn cursed silently as she dragged herself off the couch and went to open the door.
"Mornin'" Said a much too cheerful Faith.
"Buffy's asleep."
Joyce stepped out of the kitchen fully dressed and walked towards the door. "Faith, hi. You're just in time for breakfast."
"Yeah? Great, I'm starved." Faith stepped inside and made her way to the kitchen.
Dawn moved to close the door behind her "Funny how she just shows up Saturday mornings huh?"
"Sweetheart, I have to step out for a minute. Let Buffy know I'll be back later." She kissed her daughter on the head and left. Meanwhile Buffy was already dashing down the stairs.
"Do I smell pancakes? Mom so rocks!" Dawn nodded and followed her sister into the kitchen.
"Hey." Said Faith from behind the refrigerator door.
"Hey." Buffy replied, quickly glancing at Faith before serving herself a heaping spoonful of fluffy scrambled eggs. Faith "unexpectedly" showing up Saturday mornings had pretty much become a Summers family ritual. She'd be more shocked if she woke up and Faith wasn't there.
"So what are we doing tonight?" Inquired Dawn taking seat on a stool.
"Tonight? As in you and I?"
"No. The whole gang."
"The Bronze. And no you can't come."
"Buffy." Dawn pleaded with her sister.
"Dawny, You're too young."
"Then let's do something else. Let's see a movie." Buffy turned around to face her sister.
"Dawn no. Go call a friend."
"Okay." Dawn stood up and walked away from the counter. She turned around one last time before exiting the kitchen. "It's just that when I'm with you and Faith… and everyone else, it's the only time I ever really feel safe."
Buffy put down the fork she had been holding and took a breath. "Fine, I'll go check the paper and see what's playing." She left the kitchen and Dawn began to pour herself a bowl of Lucky Charms.
"Nice." Faith said with a mouthful of chewed up pancakes. "Although I would have snuck a tear in there for good measure."
"I'm a work in progress." Replied Dawn taking a seat across from her.
Dawn continued looking through the greasy glass case filled with an assortment of chocolate sugar treats. "Buffy never lets me get candy." Dawn said almost hypnotized.
"That's because it's like four dollars for a Kit-Kat!" Buffy said in her defense. "When you get a job, you can buy all the candy you want."
"When I get a job? Look who's talking?"
"Hey, I work very hard getting mom to give me money."
"Here's ten bucks, D. Go nuts." Faith handed Dawn a ten-dollar bill and led Buffy towards the usher and away from her sister.
"Second theatre on your right." Squeaked the prepubescent teenager.
"What was that?" Faith asked casually trying to get him to talk again. Buffy elbowed her in the ribs.
"He said second one on our right, honey."
"Ow, okay." She said rubbing her side. They walked into the theatre and smiled to see that it was empty.
"Where do you want to sit?" Said Buffy looking around.
"In the back of course." Faith was already making her way up the stairs. "That way if more people come, we can still make out." She grinned wiggled her eyebrows at the obviously not amused blonde and headed towards the last isle.
"Riight."
"Hey *you* called me honey, honey." Faith replied looking up and smiling innocently. Buffy ignored her comment and took a seat next to her. The next few minutes were spent shouting answers at the movie screen during the pre-movie trivia.
"Where's Buffy and Faith? We'll never find them now." Both women looked down towards the exit to see a very embarrassed Cordelia and goofy looking Xander standing there.
"Hey you guys made it." Buffy shouted back.
"Yep. Who would turn down a night at the movies? Not I."
"Did you guys see Dawn in the lobby?" Buffy ask concerned.
"Yeah I think she was getting Willow to buy her some popcorn."
"She what?"
"Your sis learns fast, B."
"Learns? Oh of course, because you're the queen of shmoozing."
"Ouch."
Buffy looked over to her left only too see Xander and Cordelia in a very passionate kiss. Unbeknownst to her, Faith had witnessed the same sight. Only it included Oz and Willow and they were on her right. They both quickly turned away from the groping couples only to bump heads with each other.
"Shit! Sorry."
"Sorry."
"Yeah, sorry. Stupid back row." Faith cursed. "It's all fun n games until people actually start making out."
Buffy giggled at her comment and Faith soon joined in.
"Shhhhh." A very irritated Dawn gave both women a serious stare from further down the row.
"Oh come on!" Faith shouted. "You'll let these two neck in front of you but you won't let us laugh?"
Willow and Oz quickly broke apart and blushed profusely. "Sorry." They both whispered.
Faith rolled her eyes and moved her left elbow to sit on the armrest only Buffy's right arm was already there. "Oh sorry, B. Didn't know it was taken."
Buffy smiled at her. "It's okay, we can share." She adjusted her arm slightly so Faith could fit.
"Thanks." She whispered shyly.
Further into the movie, Faith began to notice that hers and Buffy's pinky's were slightly touching. Every so often they would even rub up against each other. Each woman's pinky finger, feeling the other. She enjoyed the contact with Buffy so she moved her hand closer so her pinky was covering her friend's. Buffy seemed to be feeling the same way because she then moved her pinky upwards to connect with Faith's. Soon, both pinky's were interlocked.
Shit, are we holding hands? Faith thought. She was confused. She hated being confused.
"You liking the movie?" Faith snapped out of her thoughts and turned to look at Buffy.
"What? Yeah great."
"Good." Buffy smiled and turned back to face the screen. Then suddenly Faith realized what had just happened. Due to Buffy's sudden movement, her hand was now completely under Faith's.
Whado I do? Whado I do?
Faith's head was in over drive. What was happening here, between her and Buffy? Sure she had lost count on the number of times she had slapped Buffy on the ass or commented on her rack. Or the constant flirting and winking she subjected her too. But then again, there were the tickle fights that led to awkward positions and then uncomfortable starring. And the dancing that somehow always ended up being just them. Not to mention the way they always hugged and wished each other good luck before they split up during some patrols…. Or how Buffy was the only one who laughed at her when she said something stupid on purpose. Or the way she'd have to put her arm around her and flick her ear during meetings to make sure she was paying attention. And that smile.. what was up with that smile? She had to have worn braces when she was little.
At last Faith decided to act, not think. She spread out the blonde's fingers and wove her own into the openings. Now her palm was resting on the back of Buffy's hand, fingers interlocked. They remained that way for the last half of the movie.
"I bet you two are the slowest slayers in history." Shouted Dawn from nearly half a block away.
"I guess we are kind of lagging." Said Faith briefly looking up at Buffy.
"I know, it's just.. it's uh, really nice out tonight."
"Yeah, the weather. Nice night for a slow walk."
Both women shook their heads and reminded themselves to turn the dork switch off. A few minutes later they arrived at Buffy's door. Dawn was already inside celebrating on her winning the imaginary race with the slayers.
"You really didn't have to walk us home you know."
"I know. I guess I just needed the exercise. Popcorn and Kit-Kats are hell if you don't work them off somehow."
Buffy laughed and began to open the door behind her when she saw Faith starting to walk down the porch steps. She hesitated a moment and then called for her. "Faith wait."
"Yeah?"
"Well, tonight, at the movies."
"Yeah."
"Were we umm.. were we holding hands?"
Faith looked down at the ground then a smile slowly formed on her lips. Soon she broke into a fit of laughter. Buffy smiled also but was still confused as to why she was laughing.
"Ya know, B. I asked myself the same thing." Faith walked forward and stood on the first step. "What would you say if I said yes?"
Buffy smiled shyly. "I don't know. What would you say?"
Faith took another step up. "That doesn't make any sense." She said grinning.
"I know. Guess I'm avoiding the question."
"Well here's another then. Did you like it?" The brunette climbed yet another stair.
"I don't know… I didn't hate it."
"You didn't hate it?" Faith descended three steps down off the porch.
"All right fine. It was, it … it felt right, Faith."
Faith smiled and scaled the porch in two quick leaps. "I thought so too." Both women smiled at each other until Faith spoke up. "So what now?"
"Now? Umm, second base?"
"Second base? What ever happened to first?"
"Faith. What about at the movies?"
"What? That was like a bunt. Not even, it was like a bunt gone foul."
"Faith, shut up. My point is, kiss me."
And so she did.
