Fields of Gold

Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I don't own Buffy or Faith, nor the song by Sting -
Fields of Gold.
Author's Notes: I actually wrote this while listening to Eva Cassidy's version
of 'Fields of Gold' but hers missed out a couple of the lyrics I
wanted in there, so the lyrics are to Sting's copy, but the mood to
Eva Cassidy's, lol :)
Feedback: I crave it.
[You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold]
I nervously knocked on the door. I mean, it's been four years since I last saw her and we didn't part on good terms. Four long hard years and not a day has gone by that I didn't think about her. I wonder if she remembers me, if she'll forgive me. I never set out to do her wrong.
[So she took her love For to gaze awhile Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold]
God she's beautiful. She opens the door and I don't know what to say, but even if I did, I wouldn't have had a chance. I'm in her arms and she's hugging me tightly, her golden hair tiggling my cheek. I'm still in love with her, though I never doubted that would change, just looking at her and holding her makes it seem even more real.
[Will you stay with me, will you be my love Among the fields of barley We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold]
She holds her hand out to me, with no words spoken and takes me into the house. It's been so long but it feels like yesterday. Stupid thoughts, she's older. We're older. I guess beauty doesn't change with time though. She smiles at me and says those three words I've waited a lifetime to hear.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
I reply, as a solitary tear rolls down my cheek.
[See the west wind move like a lover so Upon the fields of barley Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth Among the fields of gold]
She leans up and I feel her soft lips upon mine. I can feel her breathing against my body, and it feels like I'm home for the first time in my life. It just feels so right.
[I never made promises lightly And there have been some that I've broken But I swear in the days still left We'll walk in fields of gold We'll walk in fields of gold]
"I'm so sorry."
I whisper, leaning my forehead against hers as my tears flow freely.
"Ssssh, it's okay now, it's all okay. Just promise me you won't go, that you won't leave like everyone else has."
Trust has always been an issue and promises aren't something to play about with, so I mean every word to her when I say it. I will try my best, never to hurt her again.
"I promise."
[Many years have passed since those summer days Among the fields of barley See the children run as the sun goes down Among the fields of gold]
She takes my hand again and we walk together and out the house. I'm not sure where we go, but we walk for hours like that. Just being together, it doesn't matter where we are, cus we're together.
[You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You can tell the sun in his jealous sky When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold]
I watch the sun set over her face, holding her tightly in my arms and know it's a day that will stay with me forever.
