PART 31

Disclaimer: I don't own them, the lines belong to Vanessa Carlton.

::And I am more than you will see
and I am more than you will need
and I am more than you will see
	more than wanted::

"You have the cell phone number and everything?" I asked Dawn, admitedly for probably the tenth time on the drive over to Ashleigh's.

"Yes mom, I have both cell phone numbers and Willow's, and Xander's, Giles' number in England, Doublemeat's number, I even have my toothbrush. Now stop worrying." She smiled at my worrying.

"Ok, I'll stop worrying if you do one thing for me."

"What?"

"Never call me mom again, makes me feel old." She laughed leaning over to fiddle with the radio as we drove, I slapped her hand away. She looked up frowning at me and wagged a finger at her. "Don't mess with my radio."

She rolled her eyes at me quickly changing the station before I could stop her, stopping on some Britney Spears song that her and Buffy are all too fond of. I mean don't get me wrong, Britney is hot, but her music is much better with a video.

"So, Buffy's going back to work already? Is that smart?"

"I am not gonna say it is smart, but she is a slayer, and she is Buffy, so she will do what she wants when it comes to that stuff, but she is only working a few hours to fill in for someone, she should be there for no more then three hours, it'll be ok."

"How was work for you this morning?"

"Good, I am really begining to hate coffee though."

"That's a shame."

"I know." I pulled over to the curb in front of Ashleigh's house, in the driveway we could see her mom and dad packing the car, and her little brother, and his friend running around getting in the way. Her parents waved to us, and we returned the wave.

"So, I'll call you when we get in, and a couple times while I am there." Dawn turned facing me in the seat.

"Yep, and I'll make sure Buffy doesn't get into any trouble." I smiled tugging Dawn into a hug. "Have fun shrimp."

"I will mom." I shoved her lightly towards the door and she got out laughing at me. She waved as I pulled away and I saw Ashleigh coming down the walk to meet her.

I watched the 'perfect family' scene in my rearview until it was out of sight. She was going to have fun, it would be good for her, never really has gotten to take a family vacation. Maybe we should do that later this summer, just for a couple days, the three of us will go stay somewhere up the coast a little, get some sun, yeah a nice little family trip. That'd be good. I smiled thinking about it, eager to mention it to Buffy.

*****

Gabe stood in the office watching Buffy through a little crack between the curtains as she rang up customers and scooped fries. It seemed like she kept looking back at him, but she couldn't possibly know he was watching her, either way, she wouldn't be able to see him through the thin crack. In his pocket he fingers the tiny glass bottle Hailey had given him. He was still more than a little anxious about using it. What if Hailey was lying when she said it wouldn't hurt her? The girl was a little loopy...but she said she needed Faith. Who would want that slut he wasn't quite sure. Ok he was going to do this. He stopped with his hand on the doorknob. But what if it hurt her, would he get in trouble if it killed her? No, that wasn't gonna happen, just do it.

He casually made his way out of the door, making sure not to look at Buffy, who he knew would just now be sitting down for her break. He stopped, talking for a minute with one of the cooks, well yelling at really, before moving on. He took a deep breath as he left the safety of the counter and crossed to where Buffy was sitting. He slid into the booth across from her. She stared at him over the top of her burger.

"We need to talk." He said setting one hand on the table, and still playing with the bottle with the other hand. Buffy sighed dropping her burger.

"You know I just had my head cut open I am really not in the mood to be fired."

"No, oh you think I am gonna fire you." Gabe laughed, hoping it didn't sound as empty to her as it did to him. "No, come on Buffy we are both adults. I said some things I shouldn't have when I left, and we work together Buffy. I wanted to clear the air. Can we do that?" Buffy looked at him for a minute before smiling.

"Yeah Gabe I would like that."

"Ok, so we will just pretend I never said all those things that made me a real jerk, and we will be ok?"

"Yeah, already forgotten."

"Good," Gabe smiled, glancing at the counter where a lady was waiting to be served.

"Oh, Buffy, I know you are on break, but I am just about to run to the bank, and Jones is in the freezer, can you ring out that lady?" Buffy turned in her seat looking at the lady.

"Sure. I'll see you later." She slide out of the booth walking towards the counter, before she got there Gabe had quickly emptied the contents of the bottle into her drink and was heading towards the door when she turned to face the lady and him. With a little wave he got into his car and speed out of the parking lot.

After taking the lady's order Buffy walked back over to her half eaten burger. After a couple more bites, she threw away the remains and drinking her soda went back to talk with Jones.

Notes: This is for lisa cause the lyrics are from her favorite song.

::Days go by and still I think of you
days when I couldn't live my life
	without you::

I sat waiting on the porch for Buffy to get home from work. Swinging gently on the big porch swing I sipped a diet coke watching some kids playing tag across the street. Buffy's car had broken down, and she said she would just get a ride from someone, it was no big deal, no need for me to come get her. She's been weird, not quite herself. But I take that mainly as being because of the surgery you know? I mean you get your head cut up, you might act a little weird for a few days afterwords. So no big deal, nothing weird going on, no need to worry. Why do I always try to convince myself of things? Things that I already know are true...there is nothing to worry about.

As I watch the kids across the street a car pulls up to the curb. I stand to get a better look at it and recognize it as Gabe's. Fuck. Buffy gets out of the passenger side door, leaning back in talking to him, I swear she give him a hug. Nothing to worry about, nothing to worry about. Smiling she waves as he pulls away honking. Throwing her jacket over her shoulder she comes up the walkway to me.

"Hey baby," she leans down kissing me, I hardly return her kiss. "What's wrong?" She asks frowning slightly.

"Gabe gave you a ride home?" I ask crossing my arms.

"Yeah, so?"

"Gabe?"

"What? Oh you can't be serious." Buffy rolls her eyes dropping her jacket and sitting in the chair across from me, she slides it over so out knees are touching she places her hands on my knees. I look down at her fingers, not wanting to look at her. "You think something is going on?"

"Well is it? I mean a few days ago you would hardly talk about the guy, and now you are getting rides, and hugging like best friends? Somethings screwy."

"We had a talk. He apoligized for the things he said, you know I don't like to loose people. Baby look at me." I had to look up at her now, I was hoping the tears I felt weren't visible. She gently stroked my cheek with her hand. "I love you. Only you." She leaned forward kissing me again, this time I kissed back. "That's my girl." she said pulling away.

"Yeah, yeah, pick on me. Dawn called."

"Oh? Is she having fun?"

"Yeah I think so, great beaches, Ashleigh cousins are loaded, something about some boy named Craig."

"Oh really? Who is this boy? How old." Buffy leaned even more forward, going into gossip mode.

"I guess he is Ashleigh's cousins friend, nineteen, so cute," I said imitating Dawn, Buffy laughed.

"Great." Behind Buffy I saw Gabe pull back up to the curb. I cocked my head looking around her. She squinted questioningly at me before turning around herself, looking back at me she looked puzzled. I wanted to take his still beating heart and rip it out through his ass. Just my opinion. We both stood looking over at him. Puting the car in park he got out holding up Buffy's purse.

"Oh my god! Thank you," Buffy went running off the porch over to him. He handed her the purse, and they exchanged a few words I couldn't hear before she gave him a hug and headed back to the porch. I took my empty coke can and started into the house, watching as he got back into the car.

"We going in?" Buffy asked as I paused in the door.

"Yeah, gonna make some dinner."

"Let me just get my jacket and I'll be in." I nod leaving the door and heading through the dining room to the kitchen, I stop for a second pushing the curtain out of the way and looking back out the window at her. She's paused on the porch looking out into the road as Gabe drives away, a half smile lazy on her face, she runs a hand through her hair. Sighing I slide the curtain closed.

PART 33

Disclaimer: I don't own Buffy charaters, the lyrics belong to Avril, some new singer, she rocks.
Notes: Hmmm I am liking this nasty turn of events...how fitting is this song for this chapter? LOL yey!

::Am I just some chick you placed beside you
	to take someones place
when you turn around can you recognize my face
I was left to cry there
	waiting outside there
	grining with the lost stare::

So I been talking to myself alot lately. I'm not sure I like that. Isn't that a sign of insanity? Having played with that fire before I am more reluctant than most to dance around its edges. It's just B, lately I don't know, she's been a little off, not quite the Buffy I know. It started almost as soon as Dawn left. It's been almost a week since then and everyday Buffy seems to grow just a little bit more distant. I don't understand it, things were going great and then bam! Guess my dreams for a perfect life were a little quick in coming. Then again I have been known to assume things. I am walking alone through one of the many cemeterys in Sunnydale. B was supposed to be here but called from work saying she had to stay late, and would see me at home. I didn't even offer a ride I knew she would just tell me not to worry. Same answer I have gotten every night this week. Same fucking disconcerting answer. So here I am alone, not even a vamp to pummel into a pleasing pile of mush. Nope, the cosmos are not on my side tonight. Although I guess it is greedy to wish vicious killers on to the general populace just to make myself feel better, but that's besides the point. I sit heavily on a tomb stone resting my hands on my knees as I look around. The point is that Buffy is weirding me out the way she has been acting. And it is starting to drive me slowly crazy. Exibit one: me sitting alone in a graveyard close to midnight, talking to myself like someone else is listening...oh yeah that would be the point. Ok this is shit. No vamps, no nothing. Guess I'll just go home and wait for B. Nothing better to do. I stand pushing off from the tombstone and starting for the gates.

*****

Buffy finished cleaning out the milkshake machine in blessed silence. The last hour they had been open had been slammed with people heading home from various events. For a town with such a large vamp population, an absurd number of people thought getting a burger at going on midnight was a food idea. And none of them thought tipping was a good idea. Now after almost an hour of cleaning Buffy was almost ready to go home.

Jones had already left, and Molly was just leaving.

"You sure you don't want me to stay and help?" Molly asked, holding the door halfway open.

"No, it's fine, I'll be done in like ten minutes and there is no reason for us both to be stuck here. You working tommorow?" Buffy asked leaning against the counter.

"Five to close," Molly smiled bitterly, and Buffy returned the smile.

"See ya then." Buffy waved turning back to the machine.

"Bye." Buffy heard Molly locking the door from the outside.

Most of the lights were out in the resteraunt and the silence hung almost as thick as the stench of burgers in the air. Buffy soon was zoning out cleaning the counter tops and few remaining utensils in the back. She didn't know why but lately she had been feeling weird with Faith. She didn't know how to react to it. No one had ever treated her as well as Faith had. But still she found her mind wandering now and then, and she felt almost guilty kissing the girl. She was worried she had made a huge mistake in choosing Faith over Gabe. A quick thing over something that could last forever. She didn't want to hurt either of them though. A sudden noise in the front broke through her thoughts. Keeping the utensil she was washing still in her hand as a weapon she moved cautiously forward to where she would be able to see the front of the restaurant. Peeking around the edge of one counter she saw a man in a black hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap fiddling around in one of the cash registers. Still holding her weapon in front of her she advanced slowly fully intending to beat the intruder to a bloody pulp before calling the police. Just as she almost reached him he seemed to sense her and spun around.

Stopping her fist an inch from him she realized it was Gabe.

"Jesus Christ Gabe! You scared the shit out of me. I was about to kill you." Gabe laughed. "What why are you laughing?"

"What? Were you going to beat me to death with a spatula?" He asked gesturing to her hand, where she noticed she still held the spatula in question, quickly she threw it on the counter.

"Sometimes you have to improvise." She said embarrassed. Gabe smiled at her smoothing some loose hairs behind her ear. She felt an almost painful stirring in her. Painful because she knew what it meant, and it was not fair to anyone involved, especially Faith. Still she held his eye contact, waiting for what would happen next. She was surprised when he turned away, closing the register door.

"You done here? I'll give you a ride home." He said more to the register than her, but she figured he was talking to her anyway.

"Sure, let me grab my bag." Quickly going to the back she told her body to calm down, remember who was important.

Gabe held the door open for her locking it behind the two of them. She waited while he unlocked the door on her side of the car, and held the door open for her. Once inside she slid on her seatbelt.

Gabe rounded the end of the car unsure of himself and his luck. No not his luck, his 'magic'. Whatever was in that bottle seemed to really have worked. Now he wasn't sure what to do. Hailey had already given him the fifty thousand so he knew she was good for the money, but to see that the potion actually worked was disconcerting. Still Buffy had been leaning to kiss him just then inside. Sliding behind the steering wheel he started the car.

"So how was your night? Jones said you were slammed when I called earlier." Gabe asked pulling out of the parking lot.

"Oh God were we. It was insane." A semi-uncomfortable silence fell over the car, only uncomfortable because each was trying to read what the others silence meant. Neither said a word all the way to Buffy's house. Pulling up along the curb Gabe put the car in park but didn't turn off the engine.

"Well, thanks." Buffy said unsurely opening the door.

"No problem." Buffy got out slamming the door behind her. Fuck. This is it, Gabe knew it was now or never if he was going to do this. He quickly killed the engine and got out after Buffy. "Hey, I'll walk you up, lots of crazys out." He smiled lopsidedly.

"Thanks." Buffy was mentally calculating whether Faith was home, only lights on were those in the living room, the ones they left on when they were out, Faith was probably on patrol for another half hour or so, she wouldn't have to explain the ride home to her. The stairs creaked as they walked up them, in the quiet the small noise seemed as loud as thunder.

"Well, thanks again." Buffy said turning at the door. "I would invite you in but you know, late and all."

"No, no I understand. I'll see you tommorow." Gabe put his arms around her shoulders pulling her into a hug. Quickly her let her go though and started backing away. Buffy found herself unquestioningly missing his arms when they were gone. "See ya," he said backing towards the steps. Buffy gave him a little wave, turning to open the door her heart beating a mile a minute, then she felt a hand on her arm and letting it pull her around her lips met Gabes. Her body melted to his in a way it never had before, the night had been comfortable, but know she was uncomfortably hot. As quickly as he had come to her he was gone. She stood watching his back as he walked back to the car, never looking back. As he drove away she turned back to the door, finding the wood door open and Faith watching her through the screen arms crossed. Without a word Faith turned away from the door.

"Faith!" Buffy called trying to open the screen, but Faith had locked it. Not to keep her out, just to slow her down. When Buffy had tugged the door open she ran into the living room in time to hear the back door slamming shut. Knowing following her was pointless she sat heavily down on the couch.

PART 34

Notes: I don't know why I feel the need to write late at night, it is a bad bad thing...

	::you're leaving I'm waiting
forgive me, I'm always missing you,
	before the goodbye::

I fucking knew it, I god fucking knew it. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. Shit. Why why the fuck didn't I trust my instinct? All 'no don't worry everything will be fine'. Nothing is ever fucking fine. Fuck. I sit down hard. I made my way to the beach, I don't really remember thinking about coming here, but now I am and it is kinda nice. As nice a place to be as anywhere after what I just saw. She fucking kissed him, she was into it, he didn't force himself she was expecting it and she wanted it. Fuck. I am so fucked. I hang my head into my hands, for once just fucking reduced, I really don't know what to do. I had her, she was mine, we were happy, and then this. It just doesn't make any fucking sense. I guess nothing really ever makes sense. But for the first time ever, when I was with her, things seemed to make sense. Fucking perfect sense.

Some surf gently blows to my face, warm I can feel it. Surprised I touch the water, even more surprised to realize it is not surf but tears. I can't remember the last time I cried. I quickly wipe away the tears with my hand, no need for all that shit. Need to fucking just move on. I stand up brushing sand off my ass as I walk towards the surf. Need to just feel it to cool off my head. I take off my shoes and socks rolling up my pants I step into the water. This is one thing I can always count on. Water. Ever since I was little it always calmed me. Even the dirty rivers, and quarrys we would play in, they had a small effect on me. The couple times I went with friends to oceans or lakes I fell in love. Something about the water. It understands, everyone. It washes away the old, and brings in the new.

Silent it can listen forever.

Standing there letting the surf drift over my bare feet I let my eyes fall closed. I was aware of another person making their way up the beach, but I could tell it was not a vamp, nothing I could pummel.

"Faith." My eyes snapped open at the sound of my name, turning I saw Hailey walking up behind me, feet also bare. "Hey, how have you been."

"Shitty," I say turning hoping to ignore her.

"Listen, I'm sorry about back in LA, I did some fucked up shit, I don't know what I was thinking. Are you alright? You look upset." She set her hand gently on my arm, and I tensed up ready to throw her deep into the ocean, but I restrained.

"I'm fine."

"Is it Buffy? Did something go wrong?" I spin around angerly at her.

"That is none of your fucking business, and what the fuck are you doing here anyway?"

"I came to apoligize. I just happened to be on the beach and saw it was you, I was going to find Buffy's house tommorow."

"Whatever." I turned back to the ocean.

"Hey baby, I really am sorry." She cautiously wrapped her arms around my waist, clasping her hands across my stomach. After a second I lean back into her. I still don't say anything but just watch the ocean. "You know, if you want, I would love for you to come back to LA, you can stay with me." I turn around in her arms my face inches from hers.

"You mean that?" I ask quietly, holding back tears.

"Of course." She pushes the hair back from my face. I lean in my lips searching for hers, but stopping just short.

"I wouldn't come back to your house if it was to watch you die." I whisper my lips brushing hers. I pushed her back more roughly than necessary, she stumbles backwards falling over a piece of driftwood and landing on her ass a good fifteen feet away. I turn picking up my shoes and heading away from her.

"You'll come back Faith, if I have to make you, you'll be back." I ignore her threats as I head off the beach.

PART 35

Disclaimer: Don't own them, just play. Britney Spears owns the lines.

::kinda hard for me to let you know
I don't let my feeling show
how much I will miss you
all the little things that make me weak
your eyes and the way you speak
without you baby I'm not me::

Buffy was sleeping on the couch when I came back to the house. Even after everything I still find her insanely cute when she sleeps. I tiptoe past her hoping not to awaken her slayer senses, I just need to get some things and get out. Unfortunately as I almost make it past a hand shoots out grabbing my leg, I am pulled to a halt.

"Faith, I am so sorry," Buffy says letting go of my leg as she sits up. I stand back from her shrugging and sliding my hands into my pockets.

"It's no big deal B, knew this wasn't forever, just came to get some stuff before I go." I back up turning towards the stairs.

"You don't have to leave!" Buffy shouts jumping to her feet, reluctantly I turn to face her.

"Yeah, I do, I am gonna go stay at the motel for a while, you figure things out with Gabe."

"Faith, I am so so sorry." I can see tears starting to form in her eyes, nodding I turn heading up the stairs, she doesn't follow me. The upstairs hall is dark and I don't bother turning on a light untill I am in Buffy's room. I quickly survey the room taking in the essence of her. I don't live here anymore. Grabbing a backpack I stuff somethings I will need for a few days into it. I can come back for the rest. On the wall on my side of the bed two pictures are thumbtacked to the wall, one of me and Dawn, and one of me and Buffy. I leave the one of Buffy and I. I move quickly into the bathroom grabbing anything I need, then back downstairs. Buffy is standing at the foot of the stairs but moves to the side when I approach. With hardly a second look I am out the door.

*****

Buffy watched Faith climb into the explorer and drive off into the night, darkness settling where the tail lights had been. She felt numb, Faith was gone, and it felt like something had been ripped from her body. But she knew this was what had to be done. Silently she closed the door, throwing the deadbolt and turning off the porchlights. Out of habit she left one light on in the living room. Once upstairs she brushed her teeth and changed into sweats for bed. With only the bedside light on she climbed into bed. That was when she noticed the picture still on the wall. She knew what that picture meant to Faith, and she knew what Faith leaving it meant. It was more final than any goodbye Faith could have said.

Buffy reached out and pulled the picture off the wall, as she slide it into the beadside table drawer, a great wave of dread washed over her. This was all wrong. As soon as it had came it was gone. She reached for the phone punching in the familiar numbers. After three rings it picked up.

"Hello?"

"Gabe?"

"Buffy? What's going on? It's almost three-thirty."

"Can you come over, we need to talk."

"Yeah, sure. Is everything alright?"

"Yeah, I need you Gabe. I really need you."

"I'll be there."

"Bye." As Buffy hung up the phone the same excitement as earlier crept back up into her.

Gabe craddled the phone in awe. She had called. And there was no doubt in his mind what she needed from him. He slide out of his bed, pulling on the jeans he had discarded earlier and a t-shirt. Sandles and a sweatshirt completed his outfit, even though it was summer the night was chilly. Steping out into the living room he grabbed his keys and headed for the door. He was surprised by a fat envelope sitting on the coffee table. He hadn't put it there, cautiously he picked it up looking inside. He tipped it over spilling the money onto the table. Among the bills was a folded slip of paper he took it unfolding it.

	The money is all here
Don't be sure I am done with you.
	Hailey

He slide the note into his back pocket, collecting the money and stuffing it into his sock drawer he once again headed out.

PART 36

Disclaimer: I don't own them, which really makes me sad, The lyrics belong to Avril, I suggest anyone goes and downloads her songs "losing grip" and "unwanted" they rock.
Notes: Yet another latenight chapter, eh it works I guess that is the important thing huh?

	::you don't know me
	don't ignore me
	you don't want me there
	you just shut me out::

She invited him over, as soon as I left she had him over. I still can't believe that. It's been over a week and it still confounds me. Guess you never really do know people. I won't forget that again. I take another gulp from the bottle of rum between my legs. I am sitting in the bare motel room leaning against the bed that has probably seen more than its fair share of dead hookers, well on my way to being well and truly trashed at.......noon. I start laughing as I realize it really is only noon. My routine since I left Buffy's, well actually since I went back to Buffy's and saw his car out front, has been to drink till I pass out after work. Today was my day off. Not from drinking from work.

Another swig and I was amazed to find the bottle empty. I tossed it to the side standing up. Guess I will just have to get more. Whoa there nelly, hold onto the bed, stop the room from spinning, ok, ok, that's better. I clumsily pull my shoes on and taking a quick look in the mirror to confirm that I really look as bad as I feel I go to the door. Opening it I rememebr my keys and turn back for them. When I start to leave again the door is blocked. With the sun behind the person and, alcohol clouding my vision, I don't immediately know who is it.

"Faith, oh my god I missed you!" Dawn throws her arms around me and only by grabbing ahold of her do I manage to stay standing. "I can't believe she is back with Gabe, I didn't know till I came back and he was there he is always there I just want to kill him!"

"Uh huh." I really can think of nothing more intelligent to say. Dawn looks past me into the room noticing the empty rum bottle. Ok I'll be honest, she probably also notices the not so modest collection of beer bottles, more than a few various liqour bottles, and uh...what else does she notice? I turn to scan the room...oh yeah some of those blue vodka drinks also empty.

"Jesus christ Faith what have you been doing?" Dawn pushes past me into the room, I only fall back leaning against the door.

"Careful Dawnie that is two times you just took the lords name in vain, lightning comes to those who invite her."

"What? Faith sit down." I allow her to pull me to a seat on the bed. "You are so trashed. God, she really screwed you up didn't she? Fucking bitch."

"Naughty words," I wag a finger in front of her face, she grabs it pushing it back down.

"Faith, don't let her get you like this, Buffy loves you, I know she does."

"No she doesn't," all of a sudden things seem clear again. "She loves Gabe, I was just some fucking phase-toy-romp in the muck thing for her. Get used to calling Gabe daddy, cause he is here to stay." Once again I am dismayed to feel tears. Fuck thought I was done with that.

"Faith, don't be like that, try!" Dawn pulls me into a hug but I pull quickly away.

"There is nothing to try Dawn, it's over, you should go, she doesn't want you with me, I'll fuck you up too, always fuck everyone up, mess them up, you'll loose with me, don't let them see you here, shhh." I know I am rambling, everything in my head seems to have become soup. "She never loved me, she never loved me." I am shaking as I pull Dawn to her feet pushing her towards the door.

"Faith, please let me stay, I love you." I shake my head pushing her through the door and shutting it, fitting the deadbolt into place. Backing away from the door I am still shaking my head, mumbling to myself. I crawl across the bed curling up in a ball at the head of the bed.

"She never loved me, she never loved me."

*****

Outside the motel Hailey listened to the whole exchange between Faith and Dawn, she had been waiting for this. As Dawn left Hailey could see tears beginning to escape her eyes.

"Poor little girl," Hailey said quietly to herself, her face breaking into a smile. She slowly made her way to the window of Faith's room, the curtains were open just enough to allow her to see inside, to witness Faith curled tightly up letting every demon that had ever taken up residence in her head free. Even from this distance Hailey could see her shoulders were shaking with sobs. Yeah now was the time, kick someone while they're down, Hailey had no problem with that. And maybe if Faith still wasn't willing, maybe Buffy would have to pay for her bad decisions, or maybe that cute little girl. Yeah, tonight she would pay Faith a visit.

PART 37

Disclaimer: Gee I would like to own them, NERD owns the lyrics.

::and I dare a mother fucker
	to come in my face
	I got something chrome
and I got it from home::

It's dark out when I finally wake up. Deathly sober and hating life, I immediately spring out of bed running to throw up the remaining alcohol in my body. I lean my head against the toilet, loving the coolness against my face, standing up my head spins for a minute and I grab the sink edge until the blurs fade away. Ok maybe all the drinking wasn't my best choice of coping. I run the tap splashing cool water over my face, staring into the mirror my eyes look dead. Fuck this. It's fucking absurd, I just need to deal and move on, and dealing will not include anymore alcohol.

I make my way back into the main room, starting to clear bottles and cans away, that's when I remember Dawn's visit.

"Fuck," I say quietly to myself sitting down on the bed. Dawn, I was so fucking wrong to Dawn. Shit, I need to call her, see her, apologize. Oh shit, I hope she didn't tell B about my being, that's all I need. My head snaps up at a knock at the door. It's got to be Dawn or Buffy, no one else knows I'm here. I cross to the door and recklessly throw it open.

I would like to take this time to point out that being reckless is never a good idea, most people would think I had learned that by now. Nah, I didn't, I opened the door, and there stood Hailey, sliding through the door before I could slam it in her face.

"Hey baby, whatchu doin?" Hailey ask sitting down on the bed and leaning back on her elbows.

"Get out Hailey." I hold the door open hoping she will make this easy.

"Oh, but I was hoping we could spend some quality time. Guess you're not big on that huh?" She sat up frowning. "Hmm...is that why Buffy left?" In a flash I am across the room strattling her on the bed hands in a choke hold around her neck. Her face is turning red with the lack of oxygen, but still she's fucking smiling, I squeeze harder, but somehow she manages to squeeze words out.

"This how you like to kill now?" That throws me off, I let go of her backing up away from her.

"What?" I ask shaking my head.

"It's more personal than stabbing isn't it Faith? Get to virtually feel their life slidng out between your fingers, bet it feels good huh?"

"Fuck you, how do you know about that."

"I know everything about you baby, have from the beginning. You disappointed me at first though. All holy and shit now, gotta change that, had to get rid of what made you that way." A slow smile crosses her lips as she sees me realize what she means.

"Buffy."

"Oh you're sharp, I like that. Yeah, got rid of the little slut, pawned her off on that loser, and trust me I agree he is a loser. Now you got some good wanna kill anger to work with. And that's just what I need."

"What the fuck are you talking about?" I am backed up to the wall now, pissed of beyond belief, but I can tell she still has more to say.

"I need you Faith, You know what my dad does, I am not even gonna bother telling you. I need someone like you used to be. A vicious killer. I know you can be that person again. There's good money in it for you."

"Get the fuck out Hailey."

"Not interested? Ok, we'll see if you change your mind. See you baby."

As she passes me on the way to the door she slides her hand down my cheek, laughing as she closes the door behind her.

How the Fuck did she know all that. Fuck. What is she going to do now? Shit. I know she is not just gonna fucking let this slide. I am in for some shit. She needs the old me. Fuck, get rid of the problem. Buffy.

*****

Hailey got into her car speeding away from the motel. Reaching down she picked up her cell phone from the passenger's seat. Without looking down she hit speed dial.

PART 38

Disclaimer: I don't own them, the lyrics are Corey Taylor's.

	::I wish I had a reason
	my flaws are open season
one good turn deserves my dying::

Hailey parked less than a block away from the Summers' house. It had taken her almost five minutes to drive from Faith's motel to the house. But by slashing Faith's tires she had guaranteed it would take Faith at least fifteen minutes to get here. As she climbed out of her car other figures emerged from the surrounding cars where they had been surveying the house and waiting for her to arrive. Z steps out of the black Escalade parked in front of her car.

"We gonna do this?" He asked pulling her in a bear hug.

"Shoot, course we gonna do this," she pushed him away playfully. "Unless you're scared."

"I ain't scared of shit girl. Here come the boys." Two more men and one woman joined them forming a circle. One man was a tall goodlooking blonde, and the other was shorter and hispanic. The girl was almost as small as Hailey and also hispanic. Hailey nodded at them. She'd known the guys since highschool, and the girl since grade school. They were a well oiled team.

"How you guys doin?" She asked looking around.

"Bitch, why you even need to ask?" The girl said pulling Hailey into a hug.

"I don't need your attitude Alissa." Hailey laughed hugging her back. This was her family, who her father had chosen to grow and work with her. Kip, and Ryan smiled at the girls.

"Alright, now this is a no shitcapades operation alright. I don't want no one fucking up. Kip, you're gonna shoot that Buffy bitch with the tranc as soon as we get in there, she is the only one we gotta worry about. The rest is cake. Z, grab the girl, Dawn or whatever. Ryan and Alissa are firepower to hold Gabe off us if he tries anything. Everyone got it?"

Looking around the circle she was met with nods all around.

"Let's roll," Ryan said pulling a gun from his belt. Alissa pulled a similar one out of her pocket. Reaching into the car Z handed Kip the tranc gun, and pulled out a shotgun for himself. Hailey left her own gun tucked in the back of her pants. Together they walked quickly towards the Summers' house.

*****

I grabbed my jacket and hurried out the door after Hailey. Stupid bitch, gonna get what she fucking has coming. I pulled out my keys jumping into the explorer. Starting the engine I backed up. My rims grinded against the pavement.

"Oh fuck me." I got out of the car circling around it. All fucking four tires slashed. From the front passenger side tires I pulled out the knife with a note attached.

Good Luck.

I let myself back into the Explorer popping the rear I shut the driver's door going to the back. Lifting a hidden panel in the floor I pulled out a few stakes sliding them into my pocket, a knife which also slide into a pocket, and gun, making sure the safety was on I slid it down the back of my pants. I slammed the back shut and took off towards Buffy's.

*****

In front of the house they split up. Z, and Ryan circled around to the back door, and Alissa, Kip, and Hailey silently acsended the stairs to the porch. Alissa peeked through the window assesing Buffy was in the living room. Figuring the other two had made it to the back. Kip slowly opened the door, crossing into the hallway followed closely by the two girls.

"Dawnie?" Buffy yelled from the living room. Kip stepped into her line of vision. "What are you.." Before Buffy could get out the rest of her sentance Kip shot a tranc arrow at her hitting her in the shoulder. She was down in seconds.

"What the fuck?" Came Gabe yelling from the kitchen and Z kicked in the door, coming in Gun in front of him, and Ryan behind. They pushed him into the living room.

"Hey Gabe." Hailey said leaning against the couch arm.

"You! What the fuck?" Gabe saw Buffy laying on the floor. "What the fuck did you do to her. You fucking crazy bitch." Gabe started to kneel down but Z tugged him straight.

"Alissa, Ryan, do a sweep, see if the kids here." Nodding the other two went off. "So Gabe, you greedy bastard, see where this has all lead? And we couldn't have done it without you."

"I didn't fucking agree to this." Gabe glared angrily.

"Doesn't matter. Now, if you promise to behave, we won't kill you. Your little girlfriend is coming with us, and I suggest you just walk out of that door and forget about it."

"Fuck you." Z increase the pressure of his grip on Gabe's neck. "Oww, that hurts."

"Now Gabe, think about this. Make the right choice." As Hailey spoke Alissa and Ryan returned to the living room.

"Nothin." Ryan said shaking his head.

"Fuck. Well one will have to do." Hailey turned to Gabe. "Now, what will it be?" After a moment Gabe nodded a little.

"Alright, I'll go." Hailey nodded to Z and he let go dropping Gabe. When Gabe stood up he headed for the door, passing Alissa he elbowed her in the nose.

"Fucking bastard!" Alissa jumped on top of him pummeling his face with her fist. Z and the other guys ran over to help, all kicking and punching him as well. After a couple minutes Hailey spoke.

"Stop." All but Alissa pulled away she was still kicking him in the stomach. "Alissa." Alissa looked up at Hailey and then backed away.

"Fuckhead." She spit on his bloody face. Hailey walked over squating down next to Gabe, he was still concious. She lifted his head up by the hair turning him to face her.

"Shoulda been smart Gabe." She let his head drop.

"Please....don't....please." Gabe weezed. Hailey pulled the gun from her back holding it to the back of Gabe's head she pulled the trigger. Blood splattered across the carpet in front of him.

"Get the bitch." Hailey motioned to Z, who threw Buffy over his shoulder, and followed the rest of the group out the door. They climbed into thier seperate cars and headed away.

*****

Running up to the house I knew I was already too late. The front door stood wide open and I knew Buffy was not inside. She had not been the winner of this fight. Still I took caution entering the house, gun out in front of me, only since working with Angel had I even learned to operate one. Still I am sure I looked totally absurd as I comando twirled into the house, gun drawn in front.

"Oh, fuck." I backed quickly out of the door suppressing the urge to hurl. Buffy wasn't there, and if she was, I did not want to be the one to find her. Gabe's face was blown to hell. I stopped on the porch, leaned over hands on my knees.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck." Shit, that was disgusting. Fucking Hailey, I mean not that I had any warm and fuzzies for Gabe, but still, I've gotten past the point of sincerely wanting people dead. Where did she take Buffy? What was she going to do to her? Where was Dawn? The questions streamed through my head in a matter of seconds. This was going to get bad.

PART 39

Disclaimer: Don't own them, lyrics are Sarah McLachlan's.

::Heaven holds a sense of wonder
	and I wanted to believe
	that I'd get called up
when the rage in me subsides::

I sat slowly down on the porch. What the fuck do I do now? I can't exactly leave. What if Dawn comes home and finds this? I gotta wait for her. I have to find Buffy though, who knows what the fuck that crazy bitch might be doing to her. Oh fuck me.

I lean my head down in my hands trying to collect my thoughts, my brains was jumping from idea to idea in seconds. Needed to just breath for a second. Ok. Need to find Dawn, Buffy, and call the cops. Have to tell the cops about Gabe.

"Faith?" I look up at the sound of my name. "Oh my god, you're here!" Dawn hugged me tightly. "Did you and Buffy make up?"

"Oh fuck Dawn. I am so sorry."

"What?" worry clouds Dawn's face. "What's wrong?"

"Buffy is missing, this girl, she took her I think. I couldn't get here fast enough." I pull Dawn tight to me.

"We have to call the police." Dawn pulls away from me, dashing for the door. I stand up grabbing her arm.

"Don't go in there Dawn!"

"Why?"

"It's Gabe, he's....it's not pretty."

"Oh God." I caught Dawn as she fell to the floor, crying. "She killed Gabe? And she has Buffy? Faith what is going to happen?" I stroke her hair gently.

"Nothing is going to happen we are going to help her, I promise nothing will happen. I have to go call the police. You wait on the porch ok?" Dawn nodded and I helped her onto a bench.

Slowly I stepped back into the house. Looking back I could seen Dawn watching me, I smiled trying to reassure her. The only way to get to the phone in the kitchen was to go through the living room. I tried not to look at the body but my eyes were drawn to it. I could tell he had been badly beaten before she shot him. And from the looks of it she had help. That was not good news to me. I didn't trust anyone she would have with her. I pulled my eyes away from the body moving quickly into the kitchen. I picked up the phone and dialed 911.

"911, please state your emergency."

"I came to my friend's house and she is missing, and her boyfriend has been shot."

"What is the address?"

"1630 Revello Drive, please hurry."

"A squad car is on its way."

I hung up the phone, thinking for a second before I picked it up again. This time I dialed the numbers more slowly. 3 pause 2 pause 3 pause.....555.......435......7. I stood leaning on the counter waiting for it to connect.

"Angel Investigations, we help the helpless. This is Angel."

"Angel."

"Faith? Is that you? What's wrong?"

"God, Angel, it's Buffy." Suddenly speaking to him I lost it, tears were streaming down my face, I couldn't even tell him.

"Shhh, Faith it's ok, what happened? Breath, speak slowly."

"Hailey...she...she..took Buffy...and shot Gabe." The words came easier, I wiped at the stubborn tears.

"We'll be there tommorow night Faith. Take care of Dawn."

"Please hurry Angel."

"I will, see you soon." The phone went dead in my ear, once again I hung it up. I made my way back through the living room, not looking at Gabe for even a second, when I reached the porch I could hear sirens approaching I sat on the bench next to Dawn pulling her close.

*****

Hailey pulled the warehouse's door shut. The clicking of the lock resounded in Buffy's ears. Looking around herself all she could see were boxes and Hailey's friends. The big guy kept his gun pointed at her while the other girl finished chaining her legs to the rings in the floor. She was chained lying flat on her back. Hailey came to kneel next to her once she was securely fastened.

"Morning sunshine." Hailey smiled down at her.

"Fuck you." Buffy glared.

"Oh, you and Faith, no manners. It's her fault you're even here you know? If she could just be nice and helpful, you would still be happy with Gabe."

"I am not with Gabe."

"Hmm, good thing we got you when we did, I see the potion is wearing off. And that was supposed to last a month. Kip, when we see that Max guy, remind me to kill him." Kip nodded looking up from the card game with Ryan.

"Now, I am going to talk to Faith, and she is going to agree to help, and I am gonna let you go, maybe, if I feel like it."

"Faith won't help you anyway."

"For your sake, I hope she does." Hailey slide blindfold down over Buffy's eyes encasing her in darkness.

PART 40

Disclaimer: Don't own them, the lyrics belong to Abandonned Pool's.
Notes: Ok I am not to happy with this chapter, I haven't had a good space of time to sit and write so it is kinda choppy. Sorry.

::then you can be the wanna be
and I can be the remedy
and we can go to hell for a while
say this world is not so shallow::

It wasn't till after midnight that the cops finally pulled away, taking Gabe's body with them thank god. Once they arrived and scoped out the situation they questioned me forever about when I got there, what the body looked like, had I touched it? Why did I take so long to call?

I guess being in jail for killing someone doesn't exactly make you seem believable when another body turns up dead. My bad. Well finally I guess they decided I might not have killed the guy and started on Dawn. They didn't keep her long though, and after taking our description of Buffy, were finally on their way. I pulled Dawn close to me as they pulled away. She was the only person I knew who might be more worried about Buffy than I was.

"I called Angel, they are on their way to help. We'll get her back." I said, trying to be reassuring. Dawn nodded.

"We better find her." She turned looking into the house. "I don't want to stay here."

"Of course not." I didn't really want to take us back to the motel either, but we really had no other choice. Besides we needed to find Hailey to know where she was, and if she found us it would make it easier. And no one I know has died in that motel room. "We'll go to the motel. Where are your car keys?"

"On my dresser."

"Ok, I'll get them and lock up." I left her on the porch again. I ran up the stairs two at a time, on the landing I turned into her room and crossed to the dresser, I picked up the keys and headed back down. Pulling the door shut behind me I turned the lock. I offered Dawn a hand pulling her up from the chair. "I'll drive."

Driving the mercedes felt wrong, knowing it had come from a complete psycho who at the very minute could be torturing and killing Buffy. I chose not to mention this to Dawn, no need to ruin the car for her. If I hadn't been so fucking stupid and pissed at Buffy I never even would have gotten with Hailey, and got Buffy in trouble.

We pulled into the parking lot of the motel, and I turned off the engine. Both Dawn and I just sat without getting out of the car.

"So," Dawn said.

"Yeah, so," I reached over taking her hand. "It's gonna be alright Dawn, I promise." Dawn nodded. I got out of the car, followed by Dawn. I opened the door to the room fully expecting to find Hailey or one of her friends waiting for us. But the light revealed only an empty room. Seeing the bed made me realize just how fucking exhausted I was. Dawn must have too because she laid down immediatly. After locking the door I switched off the light and crawled onto the end next to her, curling my body around hers she snuggled up next to me, I didn't let myself fall asleep until I felt her fall asleep.

*****

I dreamed about being with Buffy.

We were alone together on a little square of indigo light in the middle of a light blue sea. The clouds overhead hung heavy I could almost feel their weight on my shoulders. Buffy seemed to feel it to, she lay down on the grass pulling me down to lie next to her. She pulled me into a kiss stroking my hair lovingly. I started to cry.

"Don't worry baby, it's not your fault." She said lovingly kissing my face gently.

"I fucked up so bad B, I don't know how but I fucked up, I always fuck up."

"Shhh, she drugged me Faith, I never stopped loving you, don't ever forget that, no matter what."

"Don't talk like you're leaving Buffy. I can't stand for you to leave me."

"I'm not going anywhere, you have to come to me, in the starship of fire on the water find me Faith."

When I woke up I could still feel her in my arms. It took me a second to realize the person I was holding was Dawn.

*****

It was afternoon when I finally woke up. Dawn was still sleeping peacefully next to me, I stretched and started to get out of bed. As I stood to head for the bathroom I almost fell over in shock seeing Hailey sitting in the corner chair. She smiled and waved her fingers at me.

"Hey sunshine morning." Hailey smiled.

"I think you should leave before I kill you." She pouted at me in response to this threat.

"Now Faith, you know ever since you left LA, you seem to have developed this nasty attitude, it's really not very becoming."

"Hailey, just go fuck off, if you don't tell me what you did with Buffy I swear to god I will kill you right now."

"And leave Buffy to die? No you wouldn't. You're going to do exactly what I want. I know about your past Faith, I know you killed a man, and have been itching to do it again, you can't tell me you haven't. I need you Faith, I need you to work for me. You will have everything you ever wanted I swear."

"No, I would rather die."

"Oh I wouldn't let you die, I'll kill Buffy. You have twenty-four hours to decide. Then I am going to kill her." Hailey stood walking over to me, and stroking my hair. "Slowly, painfully, and it will all be your fault." I slapped her hand away, and grabbed her by the throat, in one quick motion I had her pinned against the wall, feet dangling off the floor.

"Don't you dare fuck with me Hailey. If she dies, I will spend every waking minute of my life hunting you, and anyone associated with you, down and killing you."

"Faith, what's going on?" Dawn was sitting up on the bed looking scared in my direction.

"Don't scare the kids Faith," Hailey weezed, I dropped her loving the way her body slammed into the floor.

"Get out." I picked her up by her hair dragging her towards the door, and pushing her out. She tumbled onto the sidewalk. As I shut the door she pulled herself up.

"Don't make me kill her Faith, I will, I'll kill her, and I'll kill the kid, and anyone else until you agree to help." I slammed the door sliding the lock into place again, even though it didn't seem to do much good.

PART 41

Disclaimer: Don't own them, Vanessa Carlton owns the lyrics.

	::I have wandered
	far and wide
	for something real
	something to die for::

After I explained who Hailey was, we spent the rest of the day resting and getting ready for the night. Pushing all the furniture to one wall of the room I taught Dawn some new moves in the space remaining. She knew alot from just watching her sister and me, I was surprised at how well she could do even some of the harder moves. I also gave her my smaller handgun showing her how to operate the safety. I hoped she wouldn't have to use it, but with Hailey I couldn't be sure of anything.

A little after dark there was a knock at the door. Not wanting to take chances I picked up my gun, I held it ready until I had checked the peephole. I pulled back from the door smiling at Dawn before opening it.

Cordy, Angel, and Gunn stood outside the door.

"It has never been so good to see you!" I smiled pulling Cordy in and giving her a hug. She sqeezed me tight letting me know she knew just how shook up I was about Buffy. Gunn slide past us carrying a pizza box. I nodded at him. "Always thinking Gunn."

"Yeah, I know, sometimes the boss here forgets us mere humans gotta eat, so I make it my job to provide grub." He set the pizza on the table, dropping his bag on the floor, he sat down on the bed.

"Ah hem..." Angel said from the doorway, we all turned to look at him.

"What?" I asked still holding Cordy around the waist.

"You going to invite me in?"

"Oh! Sorry! Angel come in!" Dawn laughed as he stepped inside, it was good to hear. Nice to know we can still laugh at times like this.

"Dawn, this is Gunn. You know the others, Gunn, Dawn."

"Was'up? Let's eat!" Gunn motioned for us all to join him as he pulled paper plates and napkins out of his bag, and started passing out slices. Dawn almost leaped from the bed to the chair next to him. And me and Cordy sat across from them, Angel sat down on the edge of the bed, within talking distance. As I bit into my slice it crossed my mind to ask about Fred.

"Where's Fred?"

"She's off and some convention thing, a smart person thing you know?" Gunn replied. "Got a special invite and everything, that girl is amazing."

I had to smile at the dreamy look that came over him.

"So any idea where they might have Buffy?" Angel asked, turning dinner serious, as it should be.

"I am thinking maybe down by the docks, one of the warehouses?"

"Why there?" Cordy asked.

"I had a dream. She said something about starship of fire on the water."

I didn't want to bring up the thing about her being drugged when she was with Gabe, in case she wasn't really drugged.

"It's a long shot." Angel said thoughtfully.

"But the only thing we have." Cordy added.

*****

After collecting weapons from Buffy's house we piled into Gunn's Suburban to head for the docks. Angel instructed everyone to try to disarm whoever we met because, chances were they would be no good at hand to hand. Anyone can shoot a gun, but not everyone can fight. None the less all of us carried our guns, even Dawn.

It was almost midnight when we entered the shipping district. I used to love this part of town, no one asked who you were, or cared. It was great for me before. Now I could feel the emptiness of it. There were probably close to fifty warehouses in the district, and we didn't even know for sure if Buffy was even in one of them. All we knew was a starship of fire, on the water. I felt like we were pretty much fucked. We split up into two groups to scan the area, planning to meet back in twenty minutes. Dawn and I headed for the building closer to the water.

"So you and Buffy really share dreams?" Dawn asked quietly.

"Yeah sometimes."

"That is so cool." We walked through four buildings with no sign of anything. The fifth was locked, but there were no lights on inside and we figured nothing was wrong there.

"This is so fucking retarded." I said frustrated already. "There is no way we are going to find her, she probably isn't even."

"Faith." Dawn interrupted.

"Here, I mean what I think a fucking stupid dream is gonna save us all? Like I'm a fucking prophet? Or that stupid pet psychic April Nonington. I mean jesus christ, what am I thinking?"

"Faith! What did she say in your dream?"

"I don't know something about a starship of fire on the water. I was probably just watching too much star trek."

"Faith look." Dawn grabbed my arm pointing to one of the buildings. On the side it read: "Firestar Shipping". In front of the building we could see the water in a harbor.

"Holy shit." We crept up next to the building and giving Dawn a push up she looked into one of the windows. Immediately she was kicking to be pulled down.

"She's there." She whispered urgently, motioning me away, we crept slowly until we thought we were out of danger then ran to the meeting point. Luckily the others were already there.

"You find something?" Gunn asked. I could only nod catching my breath.

"Dawn found the warehouse from my dream."

"Well let's go kick that bitches butt." Cordy said taking the lead.

"Hold on Cordy. How many were there?" Angel asked me. I shrugged.

"I didn't see. Dawn how many were there?"

"Um...I don't know four or five."

"Alright we can play those odds." Angel started in the direction we had just come from and the rest of us fell in behind him. I walked up next to him leading him to the building.

PART 42

Disclaimer: I don't own the Buffy peeps=( The lyrics belong to Hoobestank? is that how u spell that?
Notes: Ok for the last 4 of you still reading this, this part is for you! Thanks for reading.

::will I ever get to see
	the ending to my story
	show me what it's for
	make me understnad it::

The building loomed up dark in front of us. When we got close enough to see it I pointed it out to him.

"That's it."

"Alright, you guys stay here, I am going to circle the place." Angel instructed.

"No way, I'm coming." I stepped up to him daring him to challenge my decision. After a second he nodded.

"Ok, Gunn, you watch out for the other two. We'll be right back."

I lead the way to the back of the building where me and Dawn had been before, Angel gave me a boost up and I looked in the window.

"Only three in there, pull me down." Back on stable ground we began to make our way around the building. Creeping along the side of the building it was like old times in LA. I like working with Angel, I forgot how much I like working with him.

"You hear that?" Angel whispered. I cocked my head listening for a moment before shaking my head. Mid-shake someone jumped on my back from a pile of crates to the right. Arms wraped around my neck pulling me backwards. Pushing off the ground I used the force and mine to flip over their head. As they let go I wrapped my arms around their neck. Now I could see it was a blonde guy. He struggled against my hands as I held him in a choke hold waiting for him to pass out. I could see Angel fighting with a dark haired guy. He kicked him once in the stomach then pummeled his face with his fists, the guy attempted to hit him but Angel grabbed his hand mid swing twisting it behind its back with a sickening crack. I felt the blond guy go limp in my arms and let him slide to the ground. One more good punch to the head and the guy fighting Angel was out cold.

"Two or three left, how you like those odds?" I asked Angel with a little smile.

"I can work with that." Angel returned a half smile before we turned back towards the gang. We crept around till we could see them then jogged up to them.

"So there a back way in?" Gunn asked.

"Doesn't look like it." I answered.

"Looks like we're gonna do this blaze a glory way." Angel said nodding.

I swear to god I could hear crickets it got so quiet. We all just looked at him. "What?"

"'Blaze a glory'?" Cordy said skepticly.

"What?" Angel asked again shrugging.

"Not the wild west here Ang." I said raising an eye brow.

"Yeah, a better thing mighta been 'We gonna run up in this bitch, and get our fight on'" Gunn suggested.

"Exactly." Cordy nodded.

"Or we could just go in there and save my sister guys." Dawn said bringing us back to reality. We looked around at each other.

"Well lets do this then." Gunn took the lead, the rest of us falling in behind him.

"Dawn you get Buffy." Angel instructed. "Then get out as fast as you can."

We circled slowly around to the front of the warehouse there set in a large door was a smaller door. The windows were all still lit up, and we had past the two guys still past out on the side of the building so odds were still good for this fight.

"Here we go." I mumbled pulling back and kicking in the door. Wood splintered and the boards crashed through into the room, there was enough room for me to squeeze through without taking time to break anymore away. As soon as I was in I felt a gun against my head, looking out of the corner of my eye I saw a pretty hispanic girl.

"Bitch what you think you're doing?" She asked.

"Kicking your skinny ass." I knocked the gun out of her hand it fired randomly up into the ceiling as it flew away. I could see Dawn step through the door running to where Buffy was chained. Behind her Angel simply opened the door stepping through. I guess I could have checked to see if it was locked. The girl was a much better fighter than I had expected blocking my punches right and left. As soon as Angel stepped in Z was on top of him, matching him blow for blow. Gunn came running to his aid, and Cordy followed Dawn to help with Buffy.

I jumped spinning and catching the girl in the jaw with my foot. The force spun her around and dropped her to the floor. Before I could use it to my advantage she swept my feet out from under me and was on top of me. I rolled her over, on top of her now I wrapped my arms around her throat, squeezing hard she clawed at the hands.

Angel and Gunn had managed to get Z down, but were having trouble keeping him down. And the fact we hadn't seen Hailey yet worried me. Finally the girl stopped struggling and I let her go. Immediately she had me flipped over again on my back hands wrapped around my neck. Fuck she hadn't really passed out. I heard Buffy yell as Dawn pulled the tape off her mouth.

"Faith."

As my vision started to fade I saw Cordy running towards us with a pipe in her hand. With a crack in connected solidly with the girl's skull. She fell sideways off me passing out with a pool of blood forming by her head. As Cordy helped me up we heard a shot. All of us including Z turned toward Buffy. Standing next to her was Hailey, who now had the gun pressed to the side of Buffy's head.

"No!" Dawn went running forward trying to knock Hailey over. Hailey just back handed her across the room. She didn't move when she landed.

"Dawn!" Buffy yelled struggling.

"Shut up!" Hailey commanded.

"Fuck you." Buffy spit. I could see her wince as Hailey pressed the gun against her skull.

"This little cavelry is cute and all, but I swear to God Faith, if your little friends don't leave, and you don't help me I will blow your little girlfriend's brains all across the floor. Tell them to let Z up."

I nodded towards Gunn and Angel who got up slowly letting Z get away.

"Yeah, who's the bitch now?" Z asked sauntering towards Hailey.

"I'm not going to help you." I started towards Hailey ready to kick her ass. She swung the gun towards me steping forward. Buffy put a foot out tripping Hailey the gun went flying and I was on top of her. I heard Z grunt as Angel and Gunn jumped him again. I pummeled Hailey's face with my fists, they were coming up bloody. Standing up I started to kick her in the ribs taking pleasure as I heard a couple crack.

"You're fucking dead bitch, you shouldn't fuck with me!" I was screaming as I kicked. Hailey grabbed my foot pulling me off balance I fell next to her and in seconds she had the gun, and was standing over me pointing it down at me.

"Faith!" Buffy screamed again struggling harder. Angel and Gunn stood over Z who was past out, neither wanting to move.

"You should have just fucking listened." Hailey weezed, blood was running down her face, some dripping on me. "Just fucking had done what I asked, then I wouldn't have to kill you. It's really too bad, because you were a great fuck."

She raised the gun more pointing it straight at my head, I closed my eyes waiting for the shot. With a loud crack I heard it, and said a silent thank you for being allowed the time I had with Buffy. I waited for the impact, it was one of those things that seemed to take forever. It felt like my whole body was hit when it finally came. I could feel the warm blood spreading. Yeah that definitely felt like a lot of weight. Wait, I cracked open one eye. I hadn't been hit I wasn't dead, Hailey was laying on top of me. I sat up squirming out from under her totally disgusted. In the corner I saw Dawn lowering the gun. Cordy ran to her pulling the girl into a hug. I followed closely behind.

"Dawn oh my god, are you alright?" I asked pulling her to me.

"Yeah I guess, she was, she was gonna shoot you, and the gun it was here. I just thought..." She started crying.

"It was good Dawny, you did good." I pulled her tighter letting her cry on my shoulder. Cordy walked back to the other too, and as Dawn cried I saw them pull the keys from Hailey pocket and unlock Buffy's chains. She jumped up hugging each of them, even Cordy. Then she walked slowly over to us.

"Faith, I'm so sorry, I never meant...." I saw tears welling in her eyes. "With Gabe, I didn't want to..." She was full out crying now. I could feel my own tears forming.

"I know." It was all I could get out before I started crying too, pulling Buffy down into our hug. The three of us cried together as Gunn, Cordy, and Angel tactfully made their way out to the dock until we were ready to come out.

::I'm holding a fortune that heaven has given to me
now I can rest my worries
	and always be sure
that I won't be alone anymore
had I only known you were there all the time
until the day the ocean doesn't touch the sand
	now and forever::

2 MONTHS LATER

I sat on the beach watching Buffy, Dawn, and Craig in the water. Things were good again, warm sun on my face, wind in my hair. This was the life.

Life was in Carmel.

Cordy, Gunn, and Angel left the night after everything, told us to call if we needed anything, but they had to get back to LA. Angel said something about he 'Got's ta get back ta keeping the hood round da crib fresh'. I am not sure he even knew what he meant. Gunn told him to go back to blaze a glory. Cordy wished me and B luck, gave Dawnie a big hug.

Dawn took it the worst, killing someone like that, me and B know all about that though. We explained to her that she did what she had to do, the cops told her the same, told her she was really brave, and that Buffy and I should be proud. We were, very proud. The rest of Hailey's little crew that was here was rounded up and thrown into jail for a while. I have to say I feel better with that. But Dawn was still scared, kept having nightmares about Hailey coming after her, and shit like that. So Angel went and paid Victor Pierce a little visit, showed him the vamp face and basically told him he would be dinner if anyone even looked wrong at us. Victor being the spinless baddie he is has now gone back to simply running his drug and whore ring. Guess Hailey really had all the ambition.

Then there was me and Buffy. The first night together was horrible. For about three minutes before we fell into bed crying about how sorry we both were and then having the best sex of my life. So we are all good now. I think this was good for us, brought us closer. I don't know, she always had a special look for me before, but now, it's just different, deeper. I love it.

So here we are, in Carmel, on our little family beach trip. We were gonna go somewhere cheaper, but Dawn's little boyfriend Craig hooked us up with a sweet beach house his parents rent. It was a good deal so here we are. He goes to the school Dawn is going to next year, she is beyond estatic.

"Hey baby, whatcha doin?" Buffy flopped down next to me on the towel.

"Getting wet now I guess could you back off a little?" I ask shoving her a little. She jumps on me smothering me in water and kisses. "Hey, Buffy!" She stops squirming on me and just lays on top of me.

"I love you," she smiles down at me.

"I love you too," I pull her down kissing her gently. She smiles again as I lay back down.

"You guys wanna stop with the show and come back to the water, it's no fun with just Craig," Dawn says sitting in the sand next to us.

"Oh Dawn I thought you and Craig had lots of fun," I said wiggling my eyebrow at her, receiving a slap from Buffy.

"Don't talk about my sister doing naughty things like that!"

"Well he is fun to do naughty things with," Dawn said, I swear with my own teasing smile.

"Dawn!!" Buffy yelled getting up. Dawn jumped up laughing and ran back to Craig in the water. Jumping on him they both fell over into the water. "Come on, let's go." Buffy said looking down.

"Nah, you go ahead."

"Oh no, you are playing with me now." She pulls me up and close to her, whispering in my ear. "Or I won't play with you later." I smile kissing her quickly.

"As much of an empty threat as I know that is, I'll still play." I take off running towards the water, her right behind me, just as I get into the water she jumps on my back, good thing I'm a slayer or I might gotten a mouth full of sand. I linked my arms under her legs, piggybacking her over to Craig and Dawn. I let Buffy down into the water pulling her around in front of me. Craig and Dawn starting splashing us, and we splashed back.

Yeah this was it, Heaven, warm sun, cool breeze, playing with the people who love me, people that I love. I hope I never loose this, it's too special, too perfect. My own little heaven, who would have thought?

spent a long time in wonder
and I still feel you holding on to
	everything inside of me
	could've been anybody
to wrap there arms around me
	would've written all the words
I've felt when I was with you
it doesn't seem like it's over
	since everything
	makes every step
lead right up to your front door
and all this time I've wanted you
	so take me to heaven
where all the faces look like yours
	and lead me to water
and I can see it now
	can you see it now

The End
