“Faith!”

Faith sank lower to the couch, covering more of her face with the comic book in hand.

“Faith!”

The voice grew louder and nearer. Faith pretended not to hear. Oh yeah, silence is golden.

"Fai-"

Buffy stopped in her tracks upon finding her counterpart seemingly consumed at her task, so deep in concentration, that the brunette didn’t notice that her reading material was in fact upside down.

The blonde grinned. Oh no, her girlfriend never got away from her before and she’s not going to succeed this time. Buffy crept up behind the younger Slayer, bent down, and hugged the other girl.

“Gotcha!”

“Hey, B. Ya finally finished your shower?”

Faith managed a toothy grin while she was groaning inside. Another Saturday. Another torture waited upon her like every other Saturday. She had to get out of this. She had to escape. She had to buy some time.

She had to stall. She’d gladly do anything rather than being dragged to –

“Faith,” Buffy nuzzled the taller girl’s neck. “Honey,” the blonde placed a kiss on Faith’s collarbone. "If I-" kiss "didn’t know" kiss "any better" kiss “I’d say” kiss “you” kiss “were ignoring me.” With that Buffy turned Faith’s head so they were facing each other.

“Wha?” Faith gulped audibly. “Nah, B, why would I do such a thing?”

“Oh, I don’t know.” Buffy started nibbling on Faith’s earlobe. "Maybe you don’t want to take me-"

Faith couldn’t take it anymore. She reached up, grabbed Buffy’s waist and pulled the blonde to her lap. Faith wrapped her arms around her girlfriend and kissed her as if there’s no tomorrow.

“Of course I’ll take you, B.” Faith managed between kisses.

“Really?” Buffy gasped, “anywhere? Anytime?”

“Oh yeah!” the breathless brunette lost all coherent thought.

“Good!” Suddenly Buffy straightened up. “Cause I want you to take me to the mall, right now.” Buffy flashed a winning smile. Who said blondes didn’t have brains?

Ha, she proved them wrong.

Faith slumped on the couch and banged her head on the armrest. She can’t believe she fell for that, again.

Buffy and her charms. She just couldn’t resist. What was it they say? Oh yeah, resistance is futile.

“Aw, B, ya never play fair.”

“Well, you’re the one being so difficult.”

Buffy kissed Faith’s nose. The other girl just sighed.

“Come on, Honey. What’s so bad about going to the mall? People do it all the time.”

“Bet they don’t get dragged to every store in existence while subjected to slavery by their girlfriends,” Faith muttered under her breath.

“I heard that.” Buffy swatted Faith’s arm. “Volunteering to carry my shopping bags is not being subjected to slavery. Besides, don’t you like spending time with me?”

Faith raised an eyebrow.

“Going to the beach is spending time with you. Me making dinner would be volunteering for you. But the mall? Why can’t you just shop through a catalogue or something? That place is evil. I bet the music they play there contains subliminal messages to get you to spend your hard earned cash on things so trivial.”

“Oh, Honey! Now I know why I fell in love with you. Must be your positive attitude on seeing things.”

“Yeah, and I’m positive that the mall is bad for my health, not to mention my credit card.”

“Come on, Faith. I swear it won’t take too long this time.”

“That’s what ya say everytime you’re gonna take more than two hours, just for picking one outfit alone.”

"After that we could stop by at Starbucks? They-"

“No! That’s another evil conception of the capitalist industry. I’m avoiding pricey-evil-in-disguise-caffeine while I still have the power.”

“Okay, okay. We’ll stop at the Espresso Pump instead. God, Faith, I’m only asking you to go to the mall with me. It’s not like I’m asking you to jump of bridge or something.”

“Oh, I’d rather jump of a bridge, Princess. I’d have a better chance surviving the trauma.”

Buffy shook her head. Her girlfriend was being difficult, but she’s not going to admit defeat that easily. Buffy still had a few cards up her sleeve.

“Stop being so stubborn. Look, you can go to that record store while I look around. And I know for a fact you just love to go to that bookstore besides the GAP. I think they have new releases out today. Besides didn’t you want another copy of Omelette?”

“Omelette?”

“You know, that Shakespeare book. The one Dawn trashed for her school paper. The Prince of baked goods?”

“It’s Hamlet, B. He’s a Danish prince.” Faith let out an exasperated sigh. “You and your sister, B. Ya just have no appreciation for good books.”

“Yeah, and the whole world knows that Faith, the leather-loving Vampire Slayer, is reading Illiad for the third time this month. Gee, Faith, I don’t think even Willow is as bookwormish as you.”

“Bookwormish? I am not bookwormish. Is that even a word? I jus’ happen to enjoy reading, that’s all. Anything from X-men to Helene of Troy. And don’t even think of mentioning this to the gang. I have a reputation to uphold.”

Buffy smirked. Faith was too verbose for her own good.

“And speaking of Red, B, why dontcha ask her instead? She is your best friend right? Ya know, go do a best friend thing.”

“I would’ve, but I want to go with you. Besides, she’s out with Tara. Probably doing spells.”

“Right. Spells.” Faith smirked and wiggled her eyebrows.

“Faith!” Buffy cuffed Faith’s head.

“Ouch! That hurts, B!”

“Aw, did I huyt the poor wittle baby?”

Silence. No answer. Faith hated it when she got hit on the head, even if it was done in a playful fashion. Painful childhood memories could do that to you.

“Faith? Oh, come on, Baby.”

Faith remained silent. Instead, she reached for her comic book that made its way to the floor and the brunette got comfortable on the couch.

“Faith?” Faith turned a page.

“Honey?” Faith turned another page. She seems so immersed with her reading that Buffy was oblivious to her.

Seeing she’s making no progress, Buffy knelt down in front of Faith and gently pried out the X-men comic from the taller girl’s hand. She realized she just crossed a line. Contritely, she took her partner’s hand in hers.

"Faith, Honey, I’m sorry. You know how I feel when we talk about Willow and Tara doing … stuff. It’s Willow! Shy, innocent Willow. And then you talk about how she’s doing things not so shy and innocent and I get uncomfortable cause I start to get these really really bad visuals and-"

Faith moved closer to Buffy and pressed a finger to the smaller girl's lips.

“You’re cute when ya babble, ya know that?”

"Cute enough for you to forgive me? Coz if it is maybe I should babble some more, coz that’s one thing I’m good at. Not that I’m not good in anything else, but-"

Faith cut her off by kissing her. They lingered for a while until oxygen became an issue.

“Yeah, well, there’s a fine line between cute and annoying.”

“So, I’m forgiven?”

“Yeah, I guess.”

“Does this mean you’re taking me to the mall?”

‘I knew that was too easy.’ Faith thought.

“Do we have to? I’m kinda cozy where I am right now, B.”

“Please?”

‘No, not those puppy eyes!’

“Pretty please?”

‘Aw, now she’s pouting. Great! Be strong, Faith! Don’t give in! Don’t…’

“Fine.” Faith gave an exasperated sigh. She’s been doing that a lot lately. ‘You are so whipped, Faith! Oh yeah, more whipped than Xand-man is with that ex-demon girl of his.’

“Thank you! You so won’t regret it! I promise!” Buffy threw her arms around Faith’s waist.

“Sure, B. Whatever.” Faith said nonchalantly. ‘Good thing I love ya so much.’ Faith put her arms around Buffy, who still had her head buried in the brunette’s lap.

“Okay, B, let’s go and get this over with.”

“Hm? Okay, in a moment. I kinda like being right here, right now.”

“Yeah?” Faith ran her fingers through Buffy’s hair.

“Yeah.” Buffy sighed contently. They have come a long way to get to this stage of their relationship, where they’re really comfortable with each other. All the pain both Slayers had been subjected were buried in the past. They had started over and worked things out. Buffy felt really lucky to have a partner who really gets her, who makes her feel safe and happy and she’s certain that the feeling’s mutual.

“Ya know, we could actually just stay in and not go out. It’s not like it’s the end of the world or something. Why are you so adamant about going to the mall anyway?”

Buffy smiled. She found it adorable how Faith defies her tough girl image and uses words that resemble Giles' choice of vocabulary.

“Remember that we’re going to the beach tomorrow?”

“Yeah, so? What, ya need, another gallon of lotion?”

“Actually I was thinking more in the lines of a new swim suit.”

“Swim suit?” Faith perked up.

“Yes, repeato girl. Swim suit.” Buffy grinned.

“Why didn’tcha say so? Come on, we gotta motor! The mall’s gonna be closed in five hours!”

The younger Slayer stood up and pulled her partner with her. She grabbed her wallet and car keys and dragged her blonde counterpart out of the house.

After all, it was a Saturday. It was tradition that they spent the day inside a building that threatened to push their credit cards to the limit. But this time, Faith wasn’t going to complain.
